Maybe we'll see heaven one of these days with our telescopes
Maybe we already have.

Well, now we know what they'll ban first...
the telescopes. If any religious theocracy ever takes over completely the telescopes will have to go. I would be interesting to see what the percentage of astronomers are believers in some sort of organized religion. I'm guessing it would be fairly low.

TVBlogger -- back about 25 years ago, I had the opportunity to peer
through what was then, one of the world's most powerful telescopes.
Any lingering shred of belief in the constructs of God as handed to us by ancient man (with the Earth as the center of the universe), immediately dissapated. A rock encircling one of countless septillion stars has had its surface harden, then developed eco-structures and complex life forms over time. Any other notions vanished with what I saw with my own eyes.

Stupid Design
I read a humorous article the other day entitled "Stupid Design." The author wanted to put this forward as a theory, listing all the badly designed species in the world... insects that die after a day or so, horse legs that shatter easily.
Anyway, many religion's views work if the Earth is the center and focus of the universe. It falls apart when you think about the complexity of all that's out there. I blogged yesterday on how
the vastness and complexity of space opened my eyes concerning religious cosmology and how it just can't explain the big picture, if you're interested.
