I'm trying to drink lots of water today
but I drink lots of water everyday.  I'm sure that the weight will go back down but it was just a surprise to see that big of a leap right out of my normal range.

My Friend, You Need To...

... stop obsessing about the scale. Your weight is going to fluctuate by several pounds one way or the other. Read my post about fitness and the scale here.

On the other hand, some things that might make you have a big gain "overnight" include:

  1. increased workouts, leading to increased muscle mass
  2. eating potatoes. I don't know why, but I eat a potato -- even a tiny piece -- and I gain 5 pounds overnight.
  3. insufficient water. start to dehydrate and your body says "Retain that water!" instant weight gain.
  4. hormone cycles. less likely for you than me coz you are a guy, but even men have hormone cycles that may affect their weight.

Hang in there. If it makes you feel better, I recently started diet/exercise again because I hit 225, which is 105 pounds more than my ideal weight -- per my doctor. So I've got to lose some serious poundage. I'm going through it with you. Hope this helps!

It's hard not to be discouraged but I'll just keep at it
I'll watch the salt for the next few days too and see what happens.  And I'll run.  Got...to...run...

Don't be discouraged!!!!
We've all been there! We've all been "good" and exercised then BAM...gained a few! Huh!!?? I should have dropped 4 pounds in the last 5 days by what I've been doing...but nope..gained 2.5. I think the Buffet probably is the culprit. Just like how you went up a few after holidays. It's got to be salt. Isn't it funny how we all blame our gains on SALT? It's true though. Salt is evil. So are nuts!!!!
