Azur, here's hoping this editor buys all 4 stories. Making a connection
sounds like it could apply to a lot of different areas of life, but rapport is important.

Azur. Lately I've come to know a lot of the arrogant ones, but I've also met the friendly ones; editors who actually phone you or send you emails.

It seems that manners have become a thing of the past.

this is all new to me, interesting stuff.
I am getting more of an idea what it must be like to write as a professional. Personally I would not have a clue how to do this. It sounds glamourous to me, but I know it is not. You are probably pounding at the key board with a cold cup of coffee beside you and hopefully not drawing on a fag... Hoping for the next dollar or next best deal.
Some people are rude, I agree what goes around comes around. This is my non-contribution to your post with my non-comment. I know nothing.

Azur--- Yes, it can work that way. But for me, meeting an editor face to
face always has helped me obtain more work and improve relationships.

Jazwolf - mixed bag today
I had one email from an editor's assistant(please !) saying we receive many submissions blah di blah but in the same hour an editor I've worked for many times emailed to say that she liked all four ideas I sent and just had a small question relating to each one. I've never met this woman face to face or spoken to her on the phone but we connect.

Uncharted territory here also, but I suppose it is like other professions - a mix of people friendly people and self centered suits. Hope a connection is made with one you can work well with Azur.

I have netted one good new possibility today with my email approaches. I think rapport is everything in this. I don't mean that you have to be buddies but there is some connection. It can't be created.

Azur--- Although I'm unhappy about it, editors are simply a reflection of
the general population, with both good and bad. Twenty years later, I'm still writing for the editor who bought my first piece when I was a wanna-be. And I still consider him one of the best. I've also encountered more than a few seemingly inompetent ones--- or maybe we just didn't connect.

Azur, I hope you find the one or more editors who appreciate good work
and yours in particular. Everyone is busy these days, but sending an email takes all of 30 seconds, so there really is no excuse not to reply, and it is a discourtesy to leave you hanging. However, courtesy is an old-fashoined idea that some seem to find quaint.

Azur, I hate to tell you this, but I have to admit that I've never had any dealings with an editor.

It's not just editors...
I can remember typing up the "thank you for applying" letters to EVERY applicant for a job. But when I was looking for work I rarely heard back from an employer unless they called me for an interview...and even then it was not likely you'd hear anything from them unless/until they offered to hire you.

Azur... There is an alluring quality to arrogance that I have not quite
figured out... There are definitely things to be learned from observing arrogance in my fellows. It comes in many forms and is fastinating to study...
