My wife thought he should die for his intrusion
but I didn't see how one less scorpian would help anything.

You're a better man than I am. That would've been one dead scorpion.

Old habits...
SuccessWarrior,
Two separate comments:
FIrst, the old habits observation you made is one I can appreciate, and the way in which those habits form shapes us in ways that linger. I have worked with emotionally disturbed adolescents and adults for over twenty years. In that time, my instincts have been honed from relative naivete to an interesting awareness and activity in tense situations that has both served me and probably placed me increased danger at times. Over the course of my work, my life has been threatened many times, and I have had two genuine attempts on my life--one with a gun that failed to fire early in my career, and one with a, no joke, crushed aluminum can with a protruding edge the guy tried on his own finger to see if it was sharp enough to cut. Without being too wordy here. I found that whereas before I began this work I had tunnel vision and was unprepared and terrified in times of conflict, after maybe three months of exposure, I actually began to notice and be drawn to conflict situations both in my work and in my environment. Did you notice a similar change in your approach to sitautions?
Second, I really like your chosen name and i am interested in how you came up with it and what it signifies for you.
P.S. I share your obsession with children, my own are frequently thetopic of conversation (two adolescent girls) and with animals. I am new to blogging and to this site, but i am finding it most interesting, entertaining and great for giving me an outlet to direct my writing.

Taps, I was looking for signs of humans
but I keep my eyes open for smaller threats too.

SuccessWarrior, Because twice in my life my home has been broken into, once through a window and once through a door, I was expecting a human varmint. A scorpion is a deadly enemy, and one very easy to miss until its too late. Years ago my sister was bitten on the little finger when she bent over to pick up a wet towel she had left on the pool deck too long. She nearly died from it.

This story reminded me of an event that took place
this past week, that I will post in my BlogBLogBlog post. Thanks for giving me something to write about. Also I have been away too long I did not know that you were not working as a cop now. I have missed so much in my absence.
