There's a short answer and a long one.
The long one involves your history of abuse...If you keeping slapping a dog...pretty soon, anytime he sees your hands, he'll run away or cower.
People abused you. Humans. It caused you to have a deep fear of humans. You know first hand what they're capable of. So, you stay away from the "monsters"...it's safer.
If I were you, I'd take deep breaths every time you think of it. Nice, deep cleansing breaths. Also, keep relaxing things around the house, like peaceful music or Chamomile tea. Think of it as a toy box of items that calm you down. ... a little survival kit.
I wish you lived closer. I could hug you when you're scared and you'd feel better. Hugs are good medicine.

Mysteria, I don't know who's coming to visit, but I hope you can relax and
be at ease. If they love you, and care about you, then why stress?

Have you seriously tried yoga?
I used to be afraid of germs. And, also, similarly, of being touched (because I was concerned where people's hands had been).
But now, through yoga (as well as therapy), I'm pretty much cured.
What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby?
Maybe we'll never know.
