Bigger Question
What happens to the smarter mice and fruitflys? I'm thinking Pinky and the Brain for the mice.

Mushrooms
I always assumed that I was the mushroom taster. I tend to have them appear on my plate from your whole family.

Food

Blanche,

I always thought the whole food tasting thing is funniest in regard to poisonous stuff.  Some mushrooms are okay;others will kill you.  I hate mushrooms. To me, they're all fungus, so I'm safe all around.  But seriously, some person tasted mushroom A to find out it was poisonous at some point.  You'd think after one was poisonous, they'd rule the category out.  I would...but to me they're nasty so I'd rule they out anyway. :)

Terpgirl, what I remember from Biology 101, is that Drusophila fruit flies

are used for genetics tests, because they reproduce liie every 11 days or so, it's easy to spot a mutation.  how smart the fruit fly is doesn't seem to enter into the equation, it's just how fast it breeds.

I hate the whole cosmetics bunny eye test.  I don't know about white lab rats, and how mice got to be so lucky. I guess because nobody complains cause they're rodents and not bunnies.

I don't know the part about the lettuce, what's up with that?

It's scary to me that you can answer any part of that question.  I really wonder how they decided to use these particular creatures for all the testing.  It's that old joke about eating things the first time---who at that piece of lettuce the first time.  It looks like every other weed, right?  Well, these creatures seem about the same as any another.  I don't get it.  I always wondered that about the whole thing about testing perfume on a bunny rabbit's eyes.  Who decided that the first time, and why?

Terpgirl,

How do you measure the intelligence of a fruit fly?  It crawls faster? I thought Drusophila were only used for genetics tests, because they reproduce fast, not to see how smart they are.

I could answer that second part of the question, but I've got myself in enough hot water talking politics. I think you probably have a pretty good idea who my list of political candidates for smart pills would be.
