Pat,

I think we can refer to it as ought-six (I always thought of it as ott-six, but I'm probably wrong).  The thing is, we have to wait until a while after the otts are over.  I think it's best to wait until you are crotchety, creaky, shakey, and gray before you do it, but maybe not.

Thanks for your answer on the  ''are people stupid'' question.  Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm hypercritical, then I get guilty feelings.  You made me feel a little better.

Mademoiselle,

If it hasn't happened to you yet, I guarantee it will.  You will say something like, ''Well, back in the eighties,''  and they will say ''Do you mean the nineteen eighties?''  That's one of those stupid things that people like to do to prove that they are smarter than the person that they are talking to.  Actually, they think they are proving that to the person that they are talking to, but they really only proving it to themselves because they are insecure about being so stupid.  To the person they are talking to, they are only proving their own stupidity.

I'm glad you made me think about the eighties, nineties thing.  I shall henceforth refer to this decade as the zeroes.  As ironic as it may seem, that is a fitting name for this decade.

That is funny.  What was the thing that grabbed onto the guy's neck?  I saw one once on TV.  They look like giant leeches from space that have a shell like a turtle and a stingray tail.  After they bite on, they dig into the neck until only the tip of the tail shows at the back of the guy's neck, and the guy turns into a zombie slave to its space mind.

I don't know what they are either.

For the record...
we could call this "ought six" as old timers used to refer to 1906...  In answer to your question, "are people stupid or what?"  Yes.

Actually, I still only use two digits ...

I just assume people will quickly figure out I'm not referring to something that happened to me a hundred years ago.

Meanwhile, a bigger issue is what does one call the current decade?  We had the 80's, the 90's ... so what's this? The 00's? Just doesn't sound right.

"Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck,
and the guy screams and tries to get it off,
I have to laugh,
because what is that thing?"
