JanesOpinion - we must remember that we are speaking in hypotheticals

Israel is at present a country state that is ingrained with one specific religion. To absorb it without granting it full autonomy, the US constitution would have to be amended dramatically to accomodate this state within its borders, the Canadian Charter of Rights only slightly less so.  Both countries would suffer major setbacks in their social development if all of a sudden specific regions of either country could suddenly favor one religion over others. This is where I see the other religions being the biggest problem, you can bet that there would be attempts to declare certain regions as favoring those religions in the same manner that the new Jewish state does. Sorry but I have to again agree with Xeno-x. Christian support for Israel has a lot of self surving elements to it. Not the least of which is the fact that they are currently fighting a common foe in Islamic extremists. The reality however is that support is for Israel over there, this support would not be present if they were over here.

Accomodation with full autonomy is a completely different ballgame and possibly the only way something like this would work.

janybaby of course veangelicals support israel
they expect the temple to be built -- and it cant be built unless israel prevails

you are not support israel, you are using israel.  the israelis themselve probably take some of that support -- but don't care a whit about the pseuco christians who give it monetarily and otherwise.

and yo don't really give a whit about israelis -- just want the 2nd temple then the beast in it so that the 2nd coming will happen

this kind of a selfish attitude will get no one no where.

Who knows, Gome, you may be right.
But from what I have seen, with all of my connections with and observations of other evangelical Christians, there is very, very strong support for Israel.  Even with its many imperfections, its secularism, etc.

JanesOpinion - I wasn't doing the laughing
I've never been to Southern Texas, I wouldn't know. Mind you; I did find a bit of humor in your use of your country's political divisions and your mentioning of the ACLU in a comment to me. As if these references mean anything to me? I think that Xeno-x has a point however, at least in general terms. Who would give a religious state being set up within the borders of the USA the hardest time? The other religions would be my bet.

Thrilled to be providing such amusement to you, X and G.
Enjoy the chortles and side splitting laughter.  I'm sure it was a necessary and overdue catharsis to your obstipated minds.

Xeno-x - the funny part of all of this is that Jewish folk, though central

to biblical prophecy, don't buy into it.

They don't recognize Jesus Christ as the messiah even though he was a Jew. They look on in amusement at the armageddon nustcases (mind you, so too do the rest of us). They are as you say; useful for those wanting to construct biblical prophecies, even though they are unwilling participants.

St. Louis has a pretty sizable Jewish community.
and lots of room to grow.  -- we'd become a pretty good place is their brothers moved here.
just have to watch the zealots -- they've done a lot of damage for the Jews over the ages.

janesopinon -- hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
omigod my side's splitting.

are you refering to those same Southern Baptists who historically have been pretty damn antisemitic -- the same ones who killed the freedom riders and burned and bombed Black churches and  like that?

those Jews would get rode out of town on a rail before they even got a chance to settle in.  I know the attitudes of good Southern Christians.  I've had to sit by and listen to them rail on and on about Jews and Blacks.

And when you speak of the South -- the Civil War is still being fought.

all the Jews are good for to you is helping to fulfill your fantasy of a second coming  -- we have told that Jews are not going to heaven according to your and Justi's interpretations of God's will.

JanesOpinion - I often wonder if you have any idea how you come across?

Am I supposed to be flattered or insulted when someone finishes off a comment in this manner?:

"Actually, Gome, suggesting a move to Canada or the US for Israel is one of the smarter suggestions you have made of late!"

Most people would consider this an insult but I can't be bothered taking offence. It just isn't worth the effort.

Actually, if the Israelis were moved into the heart of the Midwest,

the South, or Texas for that matter, I don't think that would cause much of a problem at all.  In fact, I don't see the S. Baptists having any trouble with them.   The problem I do see is all the liberals and secularists raising cane over the fact that such a religious country as Israel was now located within US borders.  I'm sure the ACLU would have a field day and think of a slew of lawsuits to file against them.  Particularly if the wailing wall was moved at tax payer expense.

Actually, Gome, suggesting a move to Canada or the US for Israel is one of the smarter suggestions you have made of late!

mysteria -- it also immediately solves the Palestinian problem
Give Israel to them, call it Palestine and let the factions within the region pound the snot out of each other to their heart's content.

RckyMtnActivist - it is really sad that an idea of moving an entire country

actually isn't as crazy as it sounds.

I fully agree, there is no way to win in a land of religious zealots intent on fulfilling their agenda.

fUNNy
I was thinking the exact same thing.. I say we scoop up all of Israel and plop it smack dab in the heartland of America...

Gome, additionally, the water is going to rise more near the equator
because of the spinning of the earth.  Countries of low elevation near the equator are going to be the first ones to submerge.  There is probably some dude in Panama builing an Arc as we speak.

Gome, I actually think that's a good idea....call me crazy but it makes

a lot more sense than trying to make peace in an area that has been fighting due to religious beliefs for centuries. My number one reason for being against organized religion!

strat - there are many true words spoken in jest
The idea of moving Israel into Canada is only about as equally ridiculous as the idea that the perpetual armed conflict that they face with their current neighbours will ever end.

SuccessWarrior - I should have been thinking in terms land elevation
Israel having one of the lowest land elevations on the planet would be underwater first in a progressive melt of the polar ice caps.

Gome, that's the price that you have to pay for peace
It's easy for me to say that since I live in a desert a 4450 feet above sea level.  =)

Texans or Canadians? Duh. I'll freeze my booty off with Canadians every day
if I never have to see another Texan.

posted by Schatz on August 2, 2006 at 6:41 AM | link to this | reply

If they go to Texas,
then there's a good chance the Southern Baptist Convention would take up where Hezpbollah left off.

Canada may, in fact, be the ticket.

SuccessWarrior - I have to agree, your plan is much crazier
Israel is nestled between the 29th and 33rd parallels lattitude. I live north of the 49th. I'd be about 200 feet under water before Israel and Lebanon got their feet wet.

TVBlogger -- then the question becomes: who would the Israelis rather be

surrounded by: Texans or Canadians?

posted by gomedome on August 1, 2006 at 10:28 PM | link to this | reply

I have a different plan that may work and might be crazier
We continue to use fossil fuels as quickly as possible so that the planet continues to warm and the polar ice caps melt thereby flooding areas near the water such as Israel and Lebanon.  We can create a new Atlantis.

Another suggestion
I've heard was to move them to Texas.  Considering the size of the state, they could easily absorb Israel and the climate might be more to their liking than Canada.  I bet Bush wouldn't mind having them in his back yard either.
