Not really. Most nominally Christian states are now secular.
During my recent research for a series of Spanish historical articles, I was amazed to learn that at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, only 20% of the population were regular churchgoers, and in Andalucia, where I live, it was 5%.
Which raises the interesting thought of just how many nominal Muslims actually practice their religion.
I used to be equally amazed to see Indian and Pakistani shopkeepers in Britian happily serving pig meat products.
Makes you think, doesn't it?

I really must get my act together and do some research about your Founding Fathers, 'cos I read recently somewhere that they were far from being all Christian even, let alone the fundamentalist bred.
If I recall correctly two were closet atheists, and at least two others were humanists. But how could one possibly draw up any significant document in those days without citing God and Christianity? Things just had to be done that way.
As I gues you know, I'm an atheist, but it makes me mad when churches become, as most of them are today, mere arms of social services. As you say, they should stick to their real job, the spiritual job.
If churches and their leaders do not defend our precious Judaeo-Christian heritage, then who will? WE forget that 18th century humanism, which brought forth America, derives from Christianity, and our liberal democratic values and principles derive from that. It's a link that we are rapidly breakin g; at our peril
