Wow, avant-garde,
What a creepy, intriguing story.  I'd probably be afraid of taking a tour, even if it was offered during day light hours.  Thanks.  :)

Yes, all is well today. Just your normal routine and feeling tired from working a 24.

Yes, it is one of a kind. There are a lot of things that hail from North Carolina.

Yes, you have the right place. I'm not familiar with the individual islands, though. A festival you describe does take place there.

I never was that interested in them. But, I was fascinated to discover that there had been a haven for them where we are going.

How interesting!
I'm going to ask my personal psychic (for real), who goes to the Carolinas quite often, if she's ever had any experiences there........

It is said that Black Beard was caught and was to hang in Charleston and so many women went out protesting they let him go. There have been some very bizzare things happen around there up into the 90s that I know about. It is a strange state if you ask me.

Avant Garde, If it isn't Chincoteague Island, I'd be very curious to know
if there is another island just like it.  From what I remember of the book, Misty of Chincoteague, the horses were remnaants of a shiipwreck that thrived as a wild herd.  The herd was culled every few years by swimming the horses across to another island.  That sounds very similar.

Maybe those guys (and girls) from TAPS on the Sci-Fi Channel would come down and investigate!

I'm not sure. I'm going to do some reading today. Perhaps, there'll be something in there on that. I'll keep an eye out.

Is that Chincoteague Island, Avant, that was one of my favorite books as a
kid. Misty of Chincoteague Island.

Just across the sound from it, not 1/2 mile, is Carrot Island. Spanish Gallions wrecked there in the 1500's and spilled their cargo onto the beach- Arabian horses. They stayed there and live to this day, swimming from island to island. If you're lucky, you can spot them grazing on the shoreline.

It sounds very Gothic and romantic

Yes, that is one of the biggest mysteries about it. No one knows who built it. The style is reminiscent of The Bahamas, where pirates where known to frequent. When it was being renovated once, a beam in the floor read 1709. It was on maps in the 18th Century, used as a landmark. Hammock came from the word 'Hummuck', or small hill.

You said the house was built Bahamian style, Avant Garde, so I'm assuming
it has an open floor plan with a veranda.   Now, I'm wondering where Bluebeard's house was.

Neither did I. But, in fact he was. It was a safe haven, given the Outer Banks did not allow large warships into its shallow sound.

Wow...the place is haunted! I saw a documentary on Blackbeard a week or so ago. They believe they found his ship of the Carolina coast. He was awful though and the Queen's armadas took his ship down broad side. It was very interesting!
