Muser et al

Muser, you raise interesting points here. The old, cynical saying that the " Gerneral are always fighting the war before last!" is very true.

The main cause of the unbelievable slaughter of the First World War was that generals on all sides were accustomed to wars of mobility against inferior forces in their colonies and empires.

Men fitted only to command battalions were in command of divisions, divisional commanders wielding corps, and corp commanres throwing army into siege warfare battles. That was the downfall, see? Siege warfare had come back into fashion, and it took years to get the hang of it.

German blitzkrieg tactics took France and Britain on the wrong foot, because they both drew the wrong conclusions from the previous war.

The Kroean War was was a hideous mess, because generals had to get used ( once again! ) to an outmoded method of fighting wars : mass infantry attacks, regardless of loss.

Many of the generals who were in charge in Vietnam cut their teeth in Korea, and at the behest of their political masters, went on making the same mistake of propping up a hated, and disgustingly barbarous regime.

They are still trying to fight a 21st century war against an amorphous enemy with 19th and 20th century strategy and tactics. Nothing changes.

Glenn.....

You show your ignorance with you name calling and your lack of understanding of economics....

Japan and Germany both are suffering high inflation rates and high unemployment.....Here's one you can look up......Since the tax cuts  of the Bush administration took effect our economy has grow by 20%....more than the entire economy of China.....

If you choose to start the name calling....you might be limited in your privileges around my blog...got it?

Corbin_Dallas,
You are the complete buffoon! Speaking German or Japanese does not seem like such a bad thing! They both have better economies than America! Come now! How many more ways can you people spin America's involvement in WWII? I really fail to see the connection!

Corbin, as one who reads Jack Kinsella and Hal Lindsey regularly, I find
the current world situation most interesting. Everything is falling neatly into place in such a way that really does baffle the former ideas modern man held about warfare. Post WWII strategists are having to figure to how to fight a completely new kind of enemy... one that has leaped out of the box of "traditional" warfare. This new kind of enemy has taken some ideas of the VC, and are perfecting guerilla warfare to a new level. Earth's citizens must understand that the wars of old, although terrible, still had an element of fairness, of civility of sorts...played according to "rules" of warfare.

The zealot armies of Islam have no rules but one CONVERT...or...KILL!! Destroy the infidel, (and his culture)...that would be anyone who is not a muslim. It does not matter one iota to this new enemy...invisible enemy, whether you or I or anyone else in the world is a dove or a hawk, a practitioner of religion or an atheist, black, white, yellow or brown is not an issue at all, poor or rich is meaningless...there is only one variable in this universal war in which we find ourselves ...there is , in the world today, a large and growing entity that proclaims itself the
enemy of ANY INDIVIDUAL who is non-muslim! Period. Why is the "civilized world" not grasping this? I think because we are so civilized...because we are taught to "play fair" and follow the rules! Fairness and rules no longer matter, I'm afraid!

The shift has occured...WE ARE LIVING IN THE NEW PARADIGM. By the time we get our collective heads out of the sand, our butts will have been severely kicked! Of course, this is only the humble opinion of a poet who has kept her head out of the clouds long enough to form an opinion of the current world situation...

I lived through WWII the attitude was so different. Instead of complaining about gas prices they would have carpooled, rationed gas and all sorts of things. It is different and not in a good way.

We are at war with terrorists

You can't fight terrorists with armies. They aren't all bunched up in one area. they don't wear uniforms. We don't even know they are terrorists until they attack. Being targets is not an effective way of flushing them out. We must rethink our strategy. Track down the leaders and eliminate them. The rest will eventually go home and get a life.

Cease Fire
I agree one hundred per cent with you on this.  It's interesting that Nazi Germany sent nuclear tech stuff to Japan right before they capitulated.  I hadn't read or heard that before.

One reason they may seem soft is because they are trying to reach a small portion of the population without wiping out the rest...It would be hard to fight that way and win, but they are hanging in there. You know if they really wanted to eliminate all their grief they could in a NY second!

Kofi would have loved those days, for sure, Corbin...maybe he's one..
of the 30's-40's "give peace a chance" guys reincarnated...Hitler would have loved him for sure.

Corbin,
This is a good post. Though none of us truly has the answer to this one, I do know that the atmosphere even in the more civil parts of the Middle East is definitely changing.
