Watch T.V. with your Children Sometimes
I think its amazing how this generation of children take things literally.  As a child, I watched all type of shows, but I always knew it was entertainment.  I would stress to children that this is entertainment, you can't do everything that you see on T.V.  Its hard to protect your children from everything, b/c they will work extra hard to find about whatever from their peers.

Good point, I am sure it is a healthy balance of the two.

I agree it is not easy, but is not impossible.  There are a lot of packages out for blocking and controlling internet access as well as v-chips and other technologies for the tv's.  However, there is always the friends house or the internet cafe or the school where they can get access to things without your control.  I too do not envy modern day parents.

Delntinis,
Interesting! I am more concerned about TV's influence on the everyday notions of adult Americans! How they view their role in a civilized World! Why has America become the source of most of the savagery on th ePlanet? Television has taught Americans some very destructive anti-social skills: the one-way conversion with no alternatives and a ride off into the sunset ending! And America may never recover from this ignorant path to save itself or the Planet!

As a child of television
I can tell you that its not so much the tv that's the problem, but the inattention given by parents to their kids as the source of all evil.

It may be "alright" ... but it's also nearly impossible.

I've been babysitting my little cousins (9 and 12) a lot lately. And their knowledge of sexual practices is staggering (not to mention, strangely, superior to mine). I certainly don't envy modern parents.
