I Fully Agree...
...with y'all when you write..."NOTHING justifies robbing children of their childhood and turning them into suicide bombers."
So what do you think the Americans are doing in Iraq for the past decade or so?
What do you think the Israelis are doing in Gaza for the past 50 years, and Lebanon again in the past week?
Surely you MUST see that a child in Iraq today is going to grow up in a violent, occupied country. Death will become normal to him or her, and IF they make it to adulthood, they're going to be looking around form the cause of the mayhem. Naturally, they're going to fix on the occupying powers, are they not? Or before that, the powers that killed up to 500,000 children as a result of the sanctions.
Similarly in Gaza and Lebanon. As the Israelis tear down houses, shoot protestors, create sonic booms over towns and cities, bomb residential areas and kill civilians daily (including children), how do you think the kids that survive are going to view Israel? As a murderous, psychopathic neighbour! (If you are in any doubt, check the link at the bottom of
this post)
NOTHING justifies robbing children of their childhood and turning them into suicide bombers. Not even US or Israeli foreign policy.

BlondeAmbition,
well, I'm glad we're on the same page in that regard. And let me add, that, in a more general sense, it may help to understand what Israel is up against, which is something that still eludes a lot of people...

I did read your post from July 5th..........I totally agree with this comment you made: "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, NO HISTORICAL EVENTS, NO PAST OR PRESENT 'WRONGS' OR 'INJUSTICES' OR WHATEVER, JUSTIFIES ROBBING CHILDREN OF THEIR CHILDHOOD AND TURNING THEM INTO SUICIDE BOMBERS! That's what my post was about! But if you think history does justify such a thing, let me remind you that, among others, Hitler justified the extermination of European Jewry not just by his ideas on race but also by pointing to history!"
I just wanted to cut and paste it because it seems so relevant to what I was saying and what I meant by my post.....we can agree to disagree about Conservatives and Liberals.....against war or for war....but nothing....and you are absolutely right.....NOTHING justifies robbing children of their childhood and turning them into suicide bombers.

BlondeAmbition,
if you're concerned about 'Israeli children drawing on bombs with joy', as you put it, take a look at my post of July 5,
Kill a Jew and go to Heaven...

They Do...
...indeed build homes, support their people, build schools and hospitals - as you do in America (though less so now that you're
hosing money away at a frightening rate on an out-of-control war).
And yes, they've also done some terrible things - as have America
Abu Ghraib?
Gautanamo?
Plus the 20+ countries America has bombed in the last 50 years...
China 1945-46
• Korea 1950-53
• China 1950-53
• Guatemala 1954
• Indonesia 1958
• Cuba 1959-60
• Guatemala 1960
• Congo 1964
• Peru 1965
• Laos 1964-73
• Vietnam 1961-73
• Cambodia 1969-70
• Guatemala 1967-69
• Grenada 1983
• Libya 1986
• El Salvador 1980s
• Nicaragua 1980s
• Panama 1989
• Iraq 1991-99
• Sudan 1998
• Afghanistan 1998
• Yugoslavia 1999
Some, like Laos, the US was not even at war with, but they were bombed anyway. And that's not a comprehensive list, by the way. And it certainly doesn't include many more covert or proxy bombing campaigns (like those done by Israel over the years, with American supplied kit, or the chaos reeked in Iran by Saddam, when he was still un-evil enough to benefit from the largesse of American arms and funds).
Do you want to take a shot at the cost, in terms of civilian lives, of all this stomping around the planet? And if every death at American hands creates an angry relative, why would be at all surprised when some of these people start coming after you or your Israeli friends?
It's an incredible kind of blindness that allows you to condem outright the violent acts of a terrorist organisation (as I do) but completly gloss over the terrorist acts carried out by your own government over the years.
D
PS Hezbollah came into existance originally as a resistance movement against Israeli occupation in the 1980s. Resistance is a viable route under the Geneva Conventions, and I'd bet by bottom dollar that Americans would resist any occupation of America! So why can you resist and the Lebanese aren't allowed to? And why do your Israeli mates think that by bombing Lebanon AGAIN that they'll weaken the very organisation that came into being BECAUSE of Israeli actions 20+ years ago? This is another kind of blindness, and one that Israel and America share - insist you are the victim of terrible organisations, whereas in fact you're the cause of those organisations coming into existance and having support in the first place.

Thanks for the reminder of all of the evil things they have done and are capable of.....I know that we should not ever let our guard down or forget. I know their will always be innocent victims in war.....but what is happening now, could surely be handled a lot better by Israel.......I can't stand to look at pictures like what I'm seeing today......Israeli children drawing on bombs with joy.

Corbin_Dallas, the trend toward humanizing Hezbollah might not be such a bad thing. Demonizing them gives them power over those who fear.

even if the Kiwanis boys don't quite fit the picture, although though sarooster thinks they might,

, I can think of others, the Nazi boys, for example, they did a lot of good for the people, well, for some of them anyway...
