That's quite a few, bel. Four of my uncles and my father served. On my
mother's side, four more uncles served and the only thing that kept my grandfather from volunteering was the induction doctor who took one look at my grandfather, bruised from head to toe from a mining rockfall and hobbling on crutches, and told him to go home (he'd made the trip with a couple of his brothers and local friends 60 miles by bus).   I know of three of my grandfather's brothers who served in WWII and all three of my grandmother's brothers served, the youngest in WWII and Korea.  Lots of military there.  Might be the reason I'm fascinated with the personal and the tactical sides of war...

The movie "Shenandoah", starring James Stewart, also depicts a family
that tries to remain neutral during the Civil War -- unsuccessfully.  Sad movie, TAPS, but one of my favorites.  I have yet to see your Quaker movie but it sounds like like a good one.

Saul
My father was in Nam, both of my Grandfathers in WWII and that doesn't count the relatives that are in now and have been in the past.

Sounds as if you have quite a few military men in your family, bel
(besides your husband).

Saul_relative, I have wondered that myself at times.  Years ago I saw a movie, "Friendly Persuasion", about some Quakers caught up in Civil War times.  I never forgot the depiction of the battle scene at the river and the peace-loving people trying to hold on to their beliefs that life is sacred.

I think that is probably the case for many
For me it's a way to get a bit of insight on many of the men in my family.
