I am not talking about a long term diversion.......
It's for the purpose of drawing attention away from Iran while the G8 meetings are going on this week in  Russia.  They won't be the main topic....Israel will be.

I don't think it's just a diversion

Iran needs years (by most estimates) to get the bomb; a quick diversion from their nuke research isn't what they're after.  I do think there's more than one reason, but here's some of my thoughts:

Iran's gov't is wildly unpopular.  A conflict with Israel might rally the people to get behind the Mullahs again.  They support the Iraqi insurgents partly for the same reason.  As the neocons believe, a free and Democratic Iraq just might help inspire Iranians and Syrians to want to be free as well.

I just heard how many bombs they allowed on their border. That shocked me they would have put up with that too! I think they are pissed now, it isn't going to be easy! What do you think of the China and Russian factor? Do you believe they will engage should Iran get involved?

Offy....
There are those who prefer to portray Israel as the villain in each and every instance.....the Israelis gave up control of two sections of the land......and still the violence continued.  they held back when the Palestinians elected a terrorist organization to lead them...and the violence continued.  The new government in Israel was thought to be more moderate....but not suicidal.

Very dangerous! Let us hope calm heads prevail. I don't blame Israel for going after their own. They have been taking a lot of crap for a long time, I am surprised they waited this long.
