bel,

this is great! Stick to it and you will never regret it! I quit years ago, and it was the very best thing I ever did for myself!

Let me give you a little tip, which may help you! When I was in the early phase and the yearning for a cigarette became too strong, I had a glass of grapefruit juice. (I kept a jar of the stuff in a small fridge in my office.) The acidity somehow reduced the urge to smopke. I later recommended this to a friend of mine, and it helped him as well.

OMG! I can't believe what Avant-Garde just said...
Cuz we did the same thing in another comments section. We said exactly the same thing at almost the same moment.

Good for you Bel...I'm proud of you...

Let me encourage you by saying that even if you fail this time, don't stop trying to quit. Don't beat yourself up either. Just make up your mind to start all over again until you finally get there.

The smoking addiction is stronger than a heroine addiction-

I had to do it too, bel.  Losing my leg was a hefty price to pay for years of smoking.  I quit cold turkey and last September my husband did too.  I love my smoke-free house.

When my sisters visit, it's out on the porch in summer and down in the basement in winter to smoke.  We don't want it near us.  Truth be known, though, you never give up the urge.  If I smell one, it's the salivating just as you spoke of.

You can do it though, girl.  It's a dirty habit and cigarettes are killers.  Good luck.

Bel
I read where nicotine is more addictive than heroin, and the withdrawals last for 13 months.

Good luck, Bel.   I know that it is very hard for you.   Fight the good fight.

Well, you could look at it like one day at a time. You don't have to boggle your mind up with that "forever" thing right now. Just for today, then do it again tomorrow. Here's to your next 90 minutes!

A dear friend of mine quit some years ago & she begged me to
teach her to cross stitch.  She wanted something to do with her hands.  She hated that so we moved on to needlepoint.  She hated that so we crocheted.  Finally she settled on learning one knitting stitch and she would just knit nonstop.  At one time she had this scarf that would have fit godzilla :)  Think a hobby would help? :)

Keep it up...
smoking is so bad for your health...I'm glad you are quitting.  A friend of mine said grapefruit juice helped him...or maybe it was toothpaste?  Something he would do that was a bad combination with the cigarette taste so he didn't want to have them together in his mouth.

Bel -
Just think what it will be like when your clothes smell fresh and clean, rather than smokey. And that taste in your mouth will finally go away! You can do it!
