I think you do much more than you realize. You are such an inspiration to me and I am very sure others. Taking care of that man is a damn good thing. Just make sure he knows he best appreciate you or I will personally come kick his butt!

Bel,
Right now, taking care of MG and I is about all I can do. If I can do that much, I feel I'm accomplishing something, but I foresee a time when once the basics are taken care of and we are set up, I will be able to do some more good to more people around me. That is my hope. Right now, my first priority is staying healthy and ensuring both our wellbeing.
I think that both are necessary at different times, taking a stand about abstract ideals and issurs in the poltical realm and also doing what's necessary and right in front of me. Otherwise, I don't think I'd be living up to what I'm supposed to be, as a Christian. I don't want to be preachy, but if in my heart, I know I'm meant to follow His example, then whatever circumstances I'm put in, I have to do my best.

We all know Passionflower does so very much good and goes through great self sacrifices to do her job. Personally praying for her well being about keeps me busy. LOL Actually my husband and I work in several programs but there is much more to do that we need to get involved in. Love to all of you.

That is very important work!!
Dear in truth you KNOW that you make a difference. Granted you have a job to do and you deal with many jerks but I remember my family speaking about some of the FEMA folks after Iniki. One thing that I will always remember was my grandfather did not know if he had enough medication with him given he was then stranded in Hawaii. While he had brought enough extra for a week, they were unsure how long it would be before he would actually be able to come home. I don't know the whole story but my Aunt went on an on about how the FEMA lady made contacts, etc... and got Grandpa in touch with the right folks to assure he would have meds if needed. To my family the main concern was grandpa's health and that became utmost important to her. People like you even though you may never know it, make the worst possible time in someone's life a bit more bearable.

Hey there! Long weekend, just now catching up!
Well, let's see...what do I do? I try to be as nice and kind as I can to everyone I meet because it only takes one person with a negative comment or a nasty expression to ruin someone's day. And I can do that even with my current physical limitations :)
I teach music and occasionally Bible studies and Sunday School and hope that in addition to learning, my students see a kind, supportive and loving person in their teacher. It's not in style anymore to be nice, to overlook rudeness and not to respond to negativity but I've never been in style. Living an example is the best thing we can do I think.

Let's see . . . I've got a Little Brother (Valley Big Brothers and Big Sisters) who I've been with since he was six. He just graduated from high school and is embarking on a career as a Chef and being a productive member of society. I also take care of my ailing folks and keep their house and yard up to snuff - oh, and I work diligently to make sure that our local beer distributor can keep paying all of his employees each week!

It was the University of Kentucky ROTC...... They will be doing it again when school starts back. The nearest state college to you may have an ROTC unit doing the same thing........they gathered them up and the national Guard made the arraingment to get them there....
There is a non-profit group doing it........
Books for Soldiers
But you're having to pay for shipping......
In New Mexico.......the Red Cross shipped the books over to the troops....so there should be sources to find ways to get them there with out large shipping charges.......

Thanks Bel
I used to work for a charity that deals with wino's, that was many moons ago in a charity shop. However that wasn't entirely for unselfish reasons, I got to get the pick of the vintage clothes coming in.
Personally, I don't do much anymore except think before I speak and try to make sure that if I can't say anything good that I keep my mouth shut, which is difficult because I can be a bitchy wit!
I try to deal with difficult people by being nice, and killing them with kindness, maybe making up for their deficit. I also start people off at 100% in terms of their personality, and it's up to them to either maintain it or lower their grade with their actions.
It's the biggest impact I can make in the smallest way, and it's the best I can do for now.

Dominican Republic
I have some property in the Dominican Republic. Before i ever invested in that area of the world, I researched it very well and stumbled across a NON-PROF ORG called the DREAM PROJECT, it was started by an Amercian Woman. You can google it, but my heart was with that org from the start. I was recently able to make a small donation, but they have all kind of fund raisers, take donations for a variety of supplies and things....they help a lot of underprivledged children get education and school supplies. They have a quote that I love.....it goes......."One thing I've learned from the life I've lived: The world can only be saved by one man or woman putting a seed in the ground or a story in someone's head or a book in someone's hands. Listen to your own song. As for this DREAM pass it on.
There are a lot of causes in the US and abroad....I guess you have to give where you feel led at the right time in your life.

What a wonderful thing to do! I believe that the great things in this world that are to come are from our children. Helping one to do better in school often makes ALL the difference.
Yes, debate is good but things have been so awful negative here lately that I didn't want to go there with this.

I'm all for positivity as I am a glass half full person
I do a little mentoring and teaching. Yesterday I spent some time with a teenage girl to improve her exam and study strategy in order to reduce her stress. OK so it won't change the world ........Re the debate thing, it's almost like debating has become a dirty word here although it only seems to come up when people are not open to other views. In real life debating is a healthy way to exchange views. Here it isn't.

I think you make a HUGE difference! Those children need someone to care for them and guide them. Sadly for some often the only place they do get that is in school.
As for the older people. I always feel so sad for them and wonder why thier families don't visit. I think there should be a retirement home for all of us here. The Blogit Retirement Village. A computer with high speed in every room!
