LOL Corbin!
I am just tired of all the bickering and so on.  We are all people, we all want a more loving and peaceful world and I just tend to think there is no reason we can't start right here.

Cringe! Well stated!!

These are words we would all do well to try to live by:

I do what I can to improve my corner of the world in the most commonly agreed common sense way as possible, and irrespective of your views, I think stepping a little out of your box to do the same every day is a good exercise in perspective.

Blanche

You have such a strong passion for the things you believe.   You also have the grace and class to realize that battling on an on is time consuming and energy sucking.  I witnessed you and another here call a truce when things went too far.  For that in itself I admire the both of you.  No, you didn't agree in the end but you handled in an adult fashion and moved on.  That is what adults do.

You are very well spoken and you don't go off on a tangent without facts.  You think out what you say and you back it up.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate that even if I don't always agree with you.

I tend to gravitate toward people with integrity, no matter who they are or what they believe. Personally, I don't care. But, when a person says something and then does it, you know that there is integrity.

We could all work together here and produce synergy. This right-fighting and insinuations are really puerile.

Just to clarify Azur's post was about how to change someone.

posted by Cringe on July 9, 2006 at 1:26 PM | link to this | reply

Just gonna reference Azur's post a little while back
in terms of politics and religion, no-one's view point can be changed by it being rammed down their throat.

Best way is to provide as much insight and education so the individual/s can make their own choices if possible.

Or do what has proven to be best practice.

Myself, I never picked up a proper newspaper or watched news bulletins except for the last year.

All I'm learning is what I've always suspected, either in politics or religion, you need to be tireless and uncorruptable to get my attention, so no likely candidate has come forward worthy or same yet.

I do what I can to improve my corner of the world in the most commonly agreed common sense way as possible, and irrespective of your views, I think stepping a little out of your box to do the same every day is a good exercise in perspective.

Bel, Thank you for speaking out on this subject.

I have my passions, and beliefs.  I don't always subscribe to the "never discuss poltics or religion, it only upsets people" idea, though.  I do speak up at times, because it upsets me to see one-sided views portrayed as  "the way things are or ought to be".

You and I are probably more alike in our views, even though I call myself a liberal and you call yourself conservative, than the labels would indicate.  I like how you phrase it, that we want what's best for our country.  I don't just post opinion or News & Politics pieces for my health, but because I think some honest dissent and discussion is a healthy thing in a democracy, but it is nearly impossible to discuss things in a civil way here.

I reserve the right to post a piece on whatever speaks to my heart, but I accept that I'm not likely to change anyone's opinion, I just want to put an alternate opinion out there.  It just tends to be a lighting rod for ugliness and hatefulness, though, so I limit it to when I'm up for it.

I don't start wars deliberately, I just want to have my say at times.  However, I do not want to contrbute to the ugliniess or negativity.

Taps
That is such a good point!  People can go on and on about any given topic and sometime we might reconsider our stand but seldom does that happen in either religion or politics.  Most of us have strong reasons for believing the way we do and there is little anyone can do to change that.

Bel, It does not bother me much what others think about me and my beliefs.   I mostly ignore arguments because I know they will not cause me to change my mind.

Great post! I very much agree with all you said.

You don't find that many reasonable people with common sense anymore. Everyone's gone freakin' crazy. They're willing to believe the most bizarre BS you've ever heard.

Not only that, but once they've swallowed the lies, hook, line and sinker, they make it their LIFE GOAL to SHOVE THAT CRAP right down everyone else's throat.

Very good post Wifey
"We want what is best for our country and our world: We just don't always agree on what is actually the best course of action."
Absolutely! This was very much in mind in my post today today.   I have been struck lately by the  disingenous way that people  label those with concerns about the approach as being on a par with enemies. It does little to contribute to unity.
As for religion, I tend to agree that that it is a matter for ourselves, Again I have been struck here by the way that people are judged if they do not express their beliefs in a particular way.
I suppose it depends on whether we seek out similarities or differences. I value communication with people who think differently to me.
