depoly whosits? Food4thought, I'll have to write that down and google it
later. I can't get my brain around it right now.  But, it does seem that if there is one thing that we humans are good at, it is creating garbage, so it would be a well nigh inexchaustible source of fuel, if that were true.

I was referring to cleaner wood burning devices, heaters, wood stoves, hydronic boilers, fireplaces are all coming under closer scrutiny modeled after the regulations that wood burning stoves must adhere to.  A lot of work is being done in the biomass end of things, pellets, corn, walnut shells and yes, in third world countries, cow dung.

Ethanol and such for cars is different, it is a “refined” product if you will, whereas biomass is burning the raw material.  I have mentioned a process, thermal depolymerization, whereas anything, just about, can be turned into oil.  Old tires, computers from the scrap heap, slaughterhouse offal, all into oil.  Now with the ability we have to produce garbage, wouldn’t turning it all into oil be the right move?  Google Thermal depolymerization and see what you get.

Food4thought,

Getting back to the subject of alternative energy, you were mentioning cleaner wood burning fuels?  What about ethanol and fuels that could be used to run cars? Or is that the same thing?

Contrary to popular opinion round these parts (and perhaps I've been guilty of giving this impression by being strident myself), I am not a Bush basher, but as you say, facts are facts and some of the facts don't seem to add up.  (I won't bother qualifying that with an "imho".  I think that in itself is a fact).

TAPS...
Right you are.  I try not to be strident, and the chuckles are just there to key it in memory, when appropriate.

First, I am not a Bush basher, but a fact is a fact.  I'm sure he (his party) gets lots of money from big oil, they would be silly to give it to Gore or any Demo you can name.  That is just how things are.  Government could do more on conservation and alternative energy.  I work in the alternative energy field and I can tell you, the money for R&D on cleaner wood burning systems comes mainly from the industry, if not totally from the industry.  The govt is involved in the regulatory end of things, but they could do so much more.  I could go on and on, and I will.

Food4thought, we tell an awful lot about ourselves when we voice an opinion.

Food4thought, look out, you're liable to get some heat for that statement
again, though, why suppress an opinon if you genuinely believe you have facts to back it up?

Bio fuels are coming, it will just take a while.  Also, with a Texas oilman running things, should we expect anything but "let us drill more"?  I think he is serious when he says we need to become less dependent on oil, but making it happen will take more than words.  Look at the "tax break" for hybrid cars, it's confusing and they can always change their minds before next tax season.  That from my wife, an accountant.

Good point, Food4thought, why post an opinion?

To alert the world there is a dire emergency, to post an alternative viewpoint to the mainstream or something you feel passionate about, to spark discussion with people who feel strongly on both sides of the issues. There are so many issues and problems facing the world today, and alternative energy is a vital one.  Why haven't we here in the US switched to ethanol-fueled cars?  Why are we still so oil-dependent and not even seriously seeming to develop alternate forms of energy?

That is something worth thinking about and discussing, and yes, as you say, it may strike a nerve, but simply avoiding subjects because they may be controversial makes no sense to me, then it feels as though I've been shouted down, forced into silence, stmply to avoid rocking the boat, which feels much too much like an abusive form of coercion for my taste.

Discussions of opinions should be part of an open forum, and the fact that I or someone else may feel passionate about my or their convictions is no reason to keep silent, only to be respectful of the opposiing viewpoint and to listen with an open mind and heart.
