We can view the many cyclic pattern of human events.  I am sure there is evidence of great leaps in human achievements throughout the course of history.  I think we are due for a big shift in the level of global happiness.

It would be so sweet if our future turned out like your vision.. I like
your view of the possibilities.  But if past behavior is a predictor of future, it seems more likely that humans will continue to struggle and fumble. I think human nature -- in fact animal nature -- has built into us the need to fight for survival. If humans hadn't fought against the elements, against animals that wanted to eat them, against other humans who want to dominate and control them, they would not have evolved and survived.  I believe that new bacteria / virus strains are evolving and that scientists will continue to find ways to keep them from destroying us. I also believe we will continue to be confused, that there is so much to our universe we'll never understand it all, and that most of us will continue to look for the good in others.

Somehow I suspect we'll have to remove the barnacles as we're growing
