Children are....

A real trip at time. Sometimes they are perfect little angels and other times the only thing holding that halo upis their tiny little horns. You gotta love them.

Trust me you are not missing anything you would enjoy on that end.  Without a doubt she is her father's child and oh so stubborn and resiliant.  She is bright and I do believe pretty happy.  Now, if the little wench would quit laughing at me when I try to roller blade

Hmm

Sorry for her. I don't read the evening news so I have no idea. I work as an ER nurse at War Memorial and have 3 children of my own . that keeps me plent busy so i don't have time for the negitivity of the news. :)

Cringe

Who is a grown up?  I refuse!

I jsut had to find what I liked.   It took me a long time to realize that Poe was actually a poet.  Until I was about 17 I thought he was a screen writer LOL!

ER
She has been through quite a bit in the past couple of years.  Between her Daddy being in Iraq and her step-father on the front page of the news, she has had it rough.  She is tough cookie though and I am so proud of her.  It is beautiful up there this time of year.

Yes Sugar Island is a very small place.  I won't give her name out because she is young.  What I will say is if you have read the Soo Evening News, you will know her step-dad's name.  He has been in the papers a great deal!

Sometimes, poetry is forced down your

throat at an early age in school, and it takes all life and meaning out of it.

I'm very wary of poetry, but will give it a chance, being that I'm supposed to be grown up now

Daughter
What is your daughters name? Sugar Island is a pretty small place. I enjoyed reading about the woes of poetry writting. LOL I hate being forced to write something that isn't me. LOL

Passion
When I read you, I FEEL your pain, your hurt, your love, your happiness.  That is what I like!

Sannhet
You are a more patient person than myself!  Please understand I am not criticizing other forms of poetry, it simply does not work for me.

I agree passionflower
I like to read and write poetry that I understand. I write from my soul and from every personal experience I have, so I just try to translate it in a message that everyone can feel.

Thanks Bel,

I'm glad you're enjoying all of us.

Bel -
I used to struggle with all the high-falutin' (sp?) poetic writin' that I came across, until it dawned on me that the poets aren't trying to impress other poets (at least not the one that I read), but are trying to convey a message to the reader. I find it fascinating to try and figure out what that message is; it's like trying to solve a mystery.

Thanks for including me...

I guess if I could describe my poetry, I'd have to say that I write for the common man. I want the average reader to relate to my poems. I want them to read something and go, "Wow! Been there, done that." Or "Gee! This woman understands what I've been going thru."

I don't generally like 'abstract' poetry either. Who does it help, really??

Hi Bel....

I have never been a fan of poetry either but I'll take your recommendation and give them a try. Thanks for this post!

Pat
You said it!!!  I want to read for the feeling, the pure pleasure of reading and connecting with the writer.  Some just give me a headache!

posted by bel_1965 on July 7, 2006 at 7:18 AM | link to this | reply

I think most folks feel as you do
that poetry is written so the meanings go over our heads and poets make references to abstract or ancient literature in styles and conventions that just don't touch us.  It's one of my big gripes about "lit-rature" style "poetry" designed to impress other poets.  I like your choices here -- thanks for the referrals.
