What a great post, Avant-garde.   I don't know if you changed anyone by sharing your inspirational reflections, but you sure gave us something to think about at times.

I think just by being yourself, you can have more of an impact than if you tried to save someone from himself.

More and more, I believe this, too. I've seen it work miracles, when anything other than compassion would only add fuel to the discord. Thank you.

AVANT

Excellent post!  I, personally, could not agree more!  We are all sojourners on this planet together.  We should be able even to correct each other with courtesy and respect.

avant-
I agree that civility, kindness, and honesty from the heart is what makes us free beings, basing what we have to say on love and not fear.  I always marvel at how you say SO much with such simplicity and complexity.  I am always thoughtful and introspective after I read your blog.  Excellent post as always!

Wiley stole my line, kind of. I was going to say I'd rather be a lover than a fighter. Humility always succeeds.

I think it is much more important to be able to set a good example than to be able to win an argument.   You have been such an example I think...

Avant, I wonder how often, if ever, someone changes another's fundamental beliefs by argument, disputation or even dialogue. Being kind, polite, compassionate, even-handed are far greater accomplishments with far greater results than 'winning' a debate. I aspire (and fail miserably) to live up to this code. A great post! Avant-Garde,

"The people who most impress me here are those who are cordial, cooperative, open-minded, and kind"

These are inspirational words, Avant-Garde, thank you. I'll strive to live up to them.  I do value kindness in others, so why should I not practice myself.  Having heart is more important than intellect, although I think, like the Wizard of Oz, the quest to develop courage, mind, heart, and find our way back to our real home is a valuable quest.  I will strive, furthermore, to recogmize that deliberate provocation is no reason to let go with both barrels, that perhaps, the greatest challenge is to learn to forigve cluelessness and deliberate malice in others as a sign of a weakness I should be compassionate of.  Great post, Avant-Garde.

Your intregriy on this site has given you a voice worth listening to.
