 Go and read the book before you start trying to say what it says.
What I have seen is that those quotes are taken out of context, kind of like taking bits and piece of the thing and not the whole verse.  In the larger picture the Koran does not promote violence (Any more than the Bible does), but says the 'eye for an eye' kind of thing, which is very much in the Christian Bible as well..

janesopinion I get tired of you refering to the Koran
when Christians violate the basic tenets of their relgion all the time by violence.
i get damn tired of all the hypocrisy

I agree that what we do with our beliefs is so important.
But that said, aren't there verses in the Koran that promote jihad and violence against the infidel (granted I have not read this for myself)?  And sure, as many love to point out, there are multiple violent actions recorded in the Bible, too.  Although John observed in the NT that "they will know we are Christians by our love."  So yes, how we carry out/follow our religious beliefs is important except for when that belief incites violence against fellow man.
