Taps- My husband told me a story today, that backs you up.
He told me of a letter to the editor in the KC Star from someone who said the first two years they owned a pitbull, she was lovable and never showed any signs of turning against them.  One day, she lunged at the ten year old son who came rushing into the house, excited about something.  They had the dog put down, not taking any chances of the breeding to fight just clicking in.

The results of loose dogs, especially running in packs, can be disasterous.  The man in the hospital, if he lives, will always be a cripple, maybe never regaining the use of his arms.

ceemarie, No one wants to cause trouble for a sweet loving faithful and true pitbull, but I fear that there are not many of those kind running around loose.   It is the ones running loose that we have to fear and need to be ready to call attention to those to 911.   Owners of the sweet loving faithful and true pitbulls have a tendency to worry about "the breed".   What about the children who have been killed by "the breed".   What about that poor man in the hospital in Independence that was attacked by three of them running loose.  He will never ever be the same again (if he lives).   We need to fear those running loose and make sure that none do--ever.

Of course, Lilane-
I know there are loving dogs out there and it takes a special bond to overcome the inbreeding. I've gotten so many emails; one that just stated that the dog that bites vets the most is a Chow! (her son is a vet)  But the numbers speak for themselves, dear, and your sweet dog is in a minority.  It is good you educate the public that not all pitbulls are bad seeds.  Like children, dogs don't fall far from the tree, as it is the time and love and care that we show to every living thing.  This dog appeared to be well fed, but also well trained, exemplified by the speed and verocity he bit into that cat.  The cat was doomed from the beginning. People steal cats and small dogs out of yards, cars, etc. to train these dogs how to fight in the pit.  I saw a documentary on it once.  I couldn't watch the little animals get torn apart. ugh!

Pitbulls
Glad you understand that side of  the kind sweet loving ones, but those fierce ones have either been trained that way or maybe had been living the streets and was in prowl of food, or maybe both.

Dear kidnykid-
I'm sure you'll see that beautiful creature passing over the bridge.  I doubt she expected to go the way she did.  Her mission here must have been accomplished.  I believe dogs and cats are all pure in heart, and all will  be waiting to greet us when we join them on the other side.

Lilane-
You are absolutely right in that loving families can produce loving dogs.  This dog was so fierce in its attack, it could have been trained for gaming.  Here in the midwest, unfortunately, it is a big problem.  He obviously is being used for stud purposes.  He had a FULL set of them.

I think small children and most dogs are a bad mix.  We have a Chihuahua/Jack Russel mix and she is not good around small children.  Our big dog, an English Pointer, a 5 out of 5 on 'needs a human pack', is the most gentle dog I've ever seen, even around small children.

I've grown up with dogs, and I wouldn't trust even my gentle Pattie alone with a child, though.  I'd rather error on the side of caution when a child's well-being is involved. But you bring out a very good point.  I just wish it was true of all owners.

To Ms. Ant Cee from Garfield Peters, DFN

First of all, thank you for reading my blog.

Secondly, I do hope I run into that cat at Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for caring so much. That's nice of you.

Pittbulls

You probably wont like what I am going to say, but I am going to be in defenses of Pittbulls, not all Pitbulls, but those that are raised in a loving caring homes, by people who wouldn't, God forbid, teach the dog to be an attacker.  I have a soon to be nine year old Pitttbull and she is as loving as any dog could be, but because of their nature there are some cruel people who teach their dog to be attackers or fighters.  If a child teases any dog that dog in most cases will defend themselves.  We also have a Chihuahua who thinks he is a Pittbull, and if he was big enough might turn into a fighter also.  Its not so much the bred but the  way they are raised.

Any dog, regardless of breed, is only as dangerous as his/her owner allows it to be
