That is a tough one...
The hardest, of course, is just being willing to let go, anyway. But given the two choices, a sudden check out, coming out of the blue, is probably preferable to a lingering, painful slide.
I've always preached quality of time over quantity. Although truth be told, I'd prefer to have both....

There's no good choice here.
No good outcome for him or for those who love and care about him. Either you talk him into prolonged suffering, or you encourage him to risk an earlier death. No matter what, there's guilt and grief. I believe if I were in his place, I'd make the same choice. Pray for courage and peace of mind. :)

it's his decision, and with cancer being as cruel as it is, it's....
understandable...

thanks for your comments... I've been really interested in what opinions are about this. One update, the doc wouldn't remove the pacemaker.

I can understand why he would think that way
although I can't help thinking that removing the pacemaker is a radical step. He needs to find a sympathetic doctor with whom he can discuss all allternatives. I watched my father die from this disease and he was only relatively young. He wanted no heroic measures to prolong his life. The last weeks were the toughest time we had ever faced and he wanted to go.

I would probably choose the same thing...
I hear cancer is a very painful way to die. I don't think I'd do anything to extend the pain if I were in his place. Either way, it should be his choice.

wow. I agree with the others, though. If it's what he wants...

He has to decide what is right for him. But whatever will be will be.

It sounds like a very sad situation
but if this is truly what he wants, then who are we to make him suffer.
