To which I will add:
Bubba presided over massive tax increases that helped create the recession Bush inherited. Bush presided over massive tax cuts that have rejuvenated the economy and increased tax reciepts.

Actually, fwmystic, Clinton presided over a huge bubble.
Sure there was a surplus, thanks to this massive bubble.  That bubble, though, began collapsing before Bush ever took office.  That said, I do completely agree that Bush has spent far too much.

Writer,
my comment wasn't meant to be dead serious  ! Seriously, though, there was a time, several years ago, where one could and did hope for some conservative sanity! Now, all there is to be found is insanity across the board...

Both parties spend like drunken sailors
The Republican's philosophy better lends itself to spending conservatively, but they haven't lived up to it lately.  Tough, partisan congressional races seem to have resulting in both parties shoveling out pork as fast as they can scoop it.  The line-item veto is one of the best ways to get spending back under control.

The President Has a Huge Responsibility

democrats spend like drunken sailors????
i wish you and your conservative ilk would quit LYING about the opposition. When Clinton was in office, there was a budget surplus. With Bush and the Republicans in control, we have a massive deficit and "earmarks." How you can blame this on democrats strains reason. Your party has been in power for 6 years or so. Why don't you take some responsibility for the mess you GOPers have left the country in fiscally.

Only now, it's beginning to?
It's been mighty strange to us for years and years! All the more reason to elect real conservatives.

Writer,
even from here, North of your border, the American domestic policy scene is beginning to look mighty strange...
