LOL Passion
I am glad to know you are OK. When your posting took a fast drop, it worried me. As for the Guard...I'll let them know about the frisking requirement!

Thanks for checking on me...We've had a mini disaster here at the apt.
Flooding in the apartment above us caused our apt to flood as well. so I haven't had internet access till this afternoon.
The major job of the National Guard (in my mind) is to set up road blocks into devasted areas that have been hit by hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc. in order to keep looters out.
Their second most important job is to frisk me when I arrive at their check point...LOL!

Bel, well, if someone wants you to sign something without reading it,
then more fool them. At least, Carl had no illusions, and is very clear about his role, and that is the important thing.

I suspected that was the case. I believe many do sign up with that notion in their mind. Depending on the recruiter and thier ethics depends on how much they really comprehend if they don't read what they are signing. I happen to be very anal about signing things without reading them...just doesn't happen. I drive people nuts with my line by line read LOL!

Bel,
To be fair, I think that MG's concern is that many who originally signed up for their state National Guard's expected to be employed domestically and not sent overseas. However, his last tour was several years ago, between 1982 and (I think) 1989. Carl would have a much better idea of how things are now.

It is hard not to take the opinion of a former military person on military matters. The truth is even much of the regular military do not realize the mission of the Guard, he is certainly not alone in his opinion.

I always try to get as many facts and sides to a question as I can before
forming an opinion, Bel. Although, I rely on MG/Gideon's opinions a lot when it comes to military history and policy.

No offense was taken. This is one of those things that I get passionate about because it troubles Carl so deeply.
I appreciate that you took the time to read the information. Thank you!

Bel, thank you for doing the leg work and bringing me up to speed
This is very thorough. I can see you feel very strongly, and I, too, meant no offense by questioning the role of the Guard. It is something that I was wondering about. I am glad that those who are enlisting are clear about what it is they are signing up for. I did not know the Guard was in Bosnia as well. Live and learn. I can see why Carl would be a little annoyed at the implication that he was hoodwinked in any way.
Thanks again. Peace.
