Those last two comments made no sense
Glennb, you should really try this:  make a logical point, explain why those who disagree with you are wrong, then back up your assertions with supporting evidence.  Sheer name-calling and wild conspiracy theories don't prove anything.

problemis, AaronB
the U.S. has made its enemies
they didn't just appear out of thin air
particularly during the Cold War and after.
more to be said.

AaronB,
I know you did not just twist the "real" fact to justify your ignorance! You people have to stop the madness! If America is so powerful, why is it always using it! Seems a bit of a problem! If you are the biggest and the baddest you should not have to also be the bully! Wake up! You people cannot be that stupid!

Oh boy, Glenn's back

You acuse me of being detatched from reality, and then say that America is not a powerful nation.  Well, except for militarily, economically, culturally, and politically; I guess we're not all that powerful.  If your measure of power is by how good a country's soccer team is, we're not too spectacular.

In response to other points, yes America has often been pragmatic:  we teamed with the evil Stalin to combat the even worse Hitler.  We funded the people that became the Taliban to fight the bigger international threat of the Soviet Union.  We even overlooked Saddam's misdeeds (until now) to keep Iran's militant ideology at bay.  The world is an ugly place, and you can't always pick the nicest allies.  I don't like it, but wishful thinking won't change those facts.

sarooster
probem is

U.S., has historically supported despots as bad if not worse than Saddam.  U.S. supports when it's in their interest -- supported  Saddam against Iran -- looked the other way when he gassed Kurds in the ealry 8o's

part of the issue is the GD hyprocrisy of the U.S.

Sarooster,
Please grow some "real" arguments! That liberal and conservative jive only works on FOX News where the debate is staged and controlled by idiots! I am so tired of you vile people!

WriterofLight,

You hide your ignorance behind the keyboard of a computer! Please! You People have "pimped" September 11, 2001 and the victims long enough! How much is this slaughter of Iraqis costing? It seem now that the whole charade is coming apart you now want to portray others as the cause (see Ann Coulter)!

You want to call people cowards for having the stronger morals! You put your tail between your "ass" and blocked me at the first sign of debate! I know where you and your kind hide!

AaronB,
Reality is so foreign to you that it is futile to comment on your state of denial! America is not a powerful Nation! It has a big military industrial complex (that mimics Israel's control over a civilian population)! So the "real" story: How is America better off than the Jew?

Xeno-x,

Notice how you bring out the freaks when you try and put some sanity in an insane place! George Bush is a bigger despot that Saddam Hussein could ever be allowed to become! Do not stray from your opinion that America is the most hated place on the Planet except in Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, and all the other places where people are enjoying the "fleecing of America"!

Stay strong!

Without the US, the world would be in deep doo doo

Many of those growing economies around the world would collapse without the benefit of our trade, tourism dollars, and foreign aid.

The real rogue nations of the world - like China, Iran and N. Korea - would do whatever they please.   The weak and corrupt UN would hardly be an adequate deterrent.  Europe would go on selling them weapons until they are turned on Europe itself.  Human rights abuses would multiply, with noone willing or able to provide the muscle to back up human rights groups.

All the people who complain about the US now would soon learn just how much they needed us.  Much as it would be nice to be missed (and proven right), I pray for the world's sake that America is never somehow removed from being the world's greatest superpower.

The Transmitter of Illumination . . .

I LOVE IT!

Beyond that, a couple of observations to go with Sarooster's demolition of your argument:

"most of the world signed the Kyoto Accord on cutting industrial emissions, etc. -- U.S. dropped out of it.

Most of the world wasn't being penalized by it like we would have been. Trading emissions credits, my conservative rear end!

"most of the world had a problem with the invasion of Iraq . US. invaded anyway."

Most of the world didn't lose 3,000 innocent lives and billions of dollars in damage to terrorism. Nor do we answer to anyone else in matters of our national security. Two-Sides Kerry was a dolt to suggest during his campaign that we do so.

"UN person saysa U.S. actions might be the cause of teroris (I've at leasted hinted at that myself)"

For cryin' out loud, use that spellchecker the good folks at Blogit so kindly provided for you! Beyond that, the only US action that can be said to be a cause of terrorism is our opposition to tyranny.

"reminds me of the poster I once saw

"Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil --

because I'm the meanest sonofabitch in the valley.:"

In the immortal words of Old Two-Sides himself when he tried to pass himself off as the kind of uneducated back-country hick he thinks us ordinary serfs and peons are while buying a fishing license: "Can I get me one of those?"

This is some illogical thinking!
I only have to mention one part of the deal and your whole argument goes away. Saddam Hussein was a terrible dictator. We went in to right the whole deal over there and you OPPOSE that. So how in the f*** are we going to tackle any of the other despots. What the rest of the world thinks about the US is of no concern to me. The rest of the world should worry about what the US thinks of them. You spout your liberal filth as much as you want. You can give aid and comfort to nations who do wrong. I do not waver in my contention that the US is doing what it takes to protect this world. No one else is going to do it. They act like you, bitching, whining, and moaning. No one is willing to step up to the plate but the good old US. We will eventually take care of who needs taking care of in spite of the liberals in this country and around the world.
