Yesss ... it take some time for any nation to bed into its role as imperator, and I guess the world's going to have to accept the Pax Americana.

To people who can't stomach this, I invariably say, " Well, okay then ; tell me who you'd rather be top dog. Russia? China? Iran?"

Shuts 'em up every time.

Thanks for the read and great comment Ariel!

I don't think the United States is owed homage and any undue praise. I just think the United States has demonstrated time and again that it will do what's right and best for everyone. Our relationship with Europe might get a little on the rocks at times, but all in all it stays strong. I think that is why the Europeans can stick it to the United States every now and then. We are just not going to walk away and say that's it. We will continue to work with the Europeans, and anyone else for that matter, with respect to democracy and such. Is the United States always right? Of course not. We make bad decisions that affect all the world. In the end though I really think America tries to do right. The elites in Europe might not like how the United States handles things, but the commoners know better.

Sarooster et al

The monumental insolence and ingratitude of almost every so-called leader of the EU, and a vast number of British and Europeans never ceases to amaze and outrage me.

I have had published several articles on this subject ; listing just a few of the debts that we owe America.

In the early 19th century, America made the first serious attempt to suppress the Barbary Pirates ; the main beneficiaries of this being mainly Britain, and European states.

The moral effect upon the exhausted, ( and in the case of the French ) mutinous soldiers of hundreds of thousands of fresh, vigorous young American troops pouring into the Western front in 1917 was utterly incalcuble. It had an identical, but reverse effect upon the Germans.

There was absolutely no hope of the Allies winning either the first or the second world war. Without America's vast economic power and its manpower thrown into the fray, the Russians would eventually have beaten Germany. With what effects one can readily imagine.

The post war Marshall Plan, by which America pulled a devastated Europe from the maw of poverty, and a possible third world war was the greatest act of enlightened self-interest in history. Her occupation of Japan was surely one of the most incredibly benign occupations in human history, turning Japan from a military dictatorship to a democracy.

The shield of American power has protected a supine and flaccid Europe since 1945, and the EU is utterly incapable of even agreeing anything, let alone planning and mounting a significant military operation. The EU leaders are totally useless and corrupt.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

Yes, I did read that, kingmi!
The Europeans have gotten too soft though. They won't stand up for anything. The US will though.

saroo, the president o European Union called it
Grotesque to characterize the US as threat to world peace. Schassel wants to remind Europeans what the fate of Europe might have been without the US in 1945.
