I live on an island in the gulf of Thailand...
I am always surprised there isn't more roadkill. The dogs sleep nearly in the road and constantly are crossing it in the midst of oncoming traffic, I can never figure out if they are more street savi than home or just lucky! I hate road kill. I lived in East Africa for a few years and saw some strange roadkill there, zebra even. That is sad!

What it is, basically, is overdevelopment of places that were habitat.
Ten years ago, around here, you would see your share of possums and racoons -- they just wind up buying it under the wheels of fast moving Chevys. But as the lake near my town has developed, you see a lot more deer, snakes, foxes, even beavers and otters. In fact, I'm starting to see road kill deers in downtown neighborhoods, as though they were someone's dogs that got out of a fenced yard.

Overdevelopment may be an oversimplified explanation, but the fact is, with more people moving everywhere, especially places where there are either mountains or bodies of water, the animals are being displaced, and many are hitting the road -- literally...

Janes
As I said it is more than just the prairie dogs. I am guessing there are some over population issues with wild life this year.  Either that or we have just move in on too many habitats and that is pushing the animals into the streets.  Whatever it is, it just does not feel good to see so much casual death everywhere.

I've noticed a lot of dead deer along the highways
here in Michigan.  I doubt there's a connection with the prairie dogs in CO, but who knows.
