I don't see how we can always know this. We can't know what triggers people's sensitivities

Azur
You've pointed out something significant: nothing is really said in an argument.

Azur--- I love mankind, its nobility and its heroism. It's people that I
can't stand.

Not everyone knows when they
are insulting someone. We should, yes, but it's not always the case. I am guilty of insulting people and being totally unaware until they say something.  At first I am surprised, but I listen to people and consider what they are saying.  If it conflicts with what I think, but is reasonable, I assess my stance and make changes.  As long as people try to see what they might be missing, it is a start.  It takes a long time and a lot of twisting for people to get as screwed up as they do, so we must have patience with eachother. I have a hard time with patience, but I'm working on it.  Hope you've had a great weekend.

Azur,

All kinds of things might be going through someone's mind as they click on an incendiary blog:  I wonder if they're talking about me;   I am glad it's not me, but I want to find out what it's about anyway out of boredom, curiosity, or whatever.

There's also the "trainwreck" phenomenon:   that repulsive  but fascinating "don't want-to-watch-but-can't-look-away-either" effect traffic accidents seem to have on people.  Other than that, who knows?

LOL...mademoiselle...the fine art of the put-down!

I suppose it does make people feel clever, especially if they can come up with a new and better way of doing it.  Still, I'd like to see some REAL debate sometime where people listen and answer the questions they are asked.  Not just Blogit, but in the news.  I had listening to these "news confrences" where the person answers questions, but not the ones they were just asked.  They kind of sidestep and avoid any real dialouge...or is it just me that sees that?

Some People Make Self Look Better by Disparaging Others...
It seems the only way to operate and may not have learned to play fair, or simply born and then an oppositional personality developed.  We can only ignore or confront.

I guess you may have a point.

Not all insults are created equal, however ... some putdowns really are brilliant.

Of course, one must, at least, occasionally actually bring some meat to the table.  Not just sauce.
