What we really need

is tort reform (Put limits on lawsuits).  A major reason medical care and drugs are so expensive is that lawyers can sue doctors and pharmaceutical companies and get outrageous sums, whether deserved or not.  For example, John Edwards made millions convincing juries that a doctor's not performing c-sections fast enough led to the kids having cerebral palsy.  A few years later, after more research and evidence, it came out that c-sections had nothing to do with the cerebral palsy.  But guess what?  The doctors' insurance companies had to pay out big, which made them raise insurance rates, and that expense gets passed on to YOU.  Giant lawsuit awards don't come out of thin air or mystical unlimited company's accounts, it eventually gets passed on to YOU in the form of higher prices.  Or else the doctor or drug company will go out of business entirely, and you don't benefit from their services.  The lawyers and a few lucky "lottery winners" make a fortune, while the rest of us get hosed.

The Democrats will never touch tort reform, because they are dependant on money and support from lawyers' lobby groups.

Corbin_Dallas,
Where were you the nine months leading up to September 11, 2001? You seem to know so much about government funding and how tax policy that provides "windfall" for the rich makes America a strong "White" Nation! When in "real" fact the US Treasury has become "Whitey's" personal ATM! "War on Terror" their PIN! It is working and they keep stealing! How much is your cut?

Ahhhhh....
One of the lower 40% of wage earners that virtually pays zero taxes.......The lower 50% of wage earners pay less than 4% of tax revenues.   Share the wealth........equalize the masses....sound familiar???

Why so we waste so much on defense.......

Some would think trying to prevent this from happening again is worth it.........

The minimum wage has been debated for quite some time
In the ned this is the reality of such a massive raise.  Less people being hired, more people out of work.  Because those businesses that are barely making it will have to cut cost...where do they cut cost?  Manpower.

I'll try and make it simple for you Mystic......

Tax revenues are running 12.9% ahead of last year.....they are at the highest level in 25 years........but spending has been higher....the way to reduce the deficit is to reduce SPENDING!

Aided by surging tax receipts, President Bush may make good on his pledge to cut the deficit in half in 2006 — three years early.

Tax revenues are running $176 billion, or 12.9%, over last year, the Treasury Department said Monday. The Congressional Budget Office said receipts have risen faster over the first eight months of fiscal '06 than in any other such period over the past 25 years -- except for last year's 15.5% jump.

The 2006 deficit through May was $227 billion, down from $273 billion at this time last year. Spending is up $130 billion, or 7.9%.

The CBO forecast in May that the 2006 deficit could fall as low as $300 billion. Michael Englund, chief economist of Action Economics, has long expected a deficit of about $270 billion this year. Now he thinks there's a chance the "remarkable strength in receipts" will push the deficit even lower.

With the economy topping $13 trillion this year, a $270 billion deficit would equal less than 2.1% of GDP, easily beating the president's 2.25% goal. Bush made his vow when the White House had a dour 2004 deficit forecast of 4.5% of GDP, or $521 billion. The actual '04 deficit came in at $412 billion, or 3.5% of GDP, before falling to $318 billion, or 2.6% of GDP, in 2005.--Investors Business Daily

Terrific Post
Explains both sides yet is very thought-provoking.
Makes me wonder, though. How come Republicans can waste so much money on 'defense' (which simply means other countries will spend more on their military-I believe in the adage that you can't prepare for and prevent war at the same time) but the Democrats can't spend money on job training and helping small business grow? Bush's tax schemes have only increased the gap between rich and poorm. Just look at the millions more in poverty and without health care. That's progress? --Shawn, "Tall and Skinny Politico"
