South Pole-1982
Because of the isolation down there, we tended not to know people from other years. I wintered over in 1982, back well before the current modern facilities. Here is a link to that time and situation: Winterover 1982

Argee
South pole? Did you ever meet a 6'4" guy named Kurt who was doing some kind of geological research down there? There can't be that many people who have visited the South Pole. He used to go for two+ months a year, I think, from November on, in the mid-late 90's. At least, that's all I was aware of. He played volleyball at Berkeley.

Engineering, actually
I received my PhD rather late in life. I was doing atmospheric research at the Geographic South Pole in 1981, and had arranged to write my dissertation while down there. I defended my dissertation and received my doctorate upon my return. More about me at my website.

Very g'dang interesting read... Crabby hates Star Trek and she hates

Trekkis ... it does not sound as though you are one, however. So that is cool. What do you hold your doctorate in? Crabby (or rather her Creator... Crabby is a boring housewife .... or she was before coming to the BN... long story) is working towards hers in psychology.

Thanks for the g'dang link!
