The Satanic Bible talks about a whole defense Satan than the Christian Bible does.
They just happen to have the same name.

kooka_lives -the belief in Satan by some people as a real flesh and blood

entity, was the biggest shock that I experienced when I first came to Blogit.

And this belief is not just held by the uneducated and feeble of mind, we have seen recent college graduates (real college graduates) tell us that they believe this mythical being to be real. We are further taken aback by those who adhere to every bit of anecdotal evidence supporting the existence of this myth as if it were the irrefutable truth. Then we have the nonsensical stories of possession, again proliferated as some form of truth even though they are no more than urban legend. But even when one adds up the sum total of all of the stories, this mythical creature sure is impotent. A few alleged possessions of a handful people every year globally (who are not so coincedently surrounded by people that believe this stuff) to tempting those lacking in willpower to give in to their inherent human weaknesses. How do presumably intelligent people succumb to this nonsense? A concept made real only in the human mind. It's sad.

actually afzal50
he's hard on the perceptions that have coated the actuality like layer on layer of onion skin through the aeons.

first, the word Satan means ":adversary"  -- or, as I like to portray it, and the two instances I refer to, "devil's advocate".

In Job, Satan is "just one of the boys", coming to wherever they come to and sparring with god -- where the subject of Job is brought up.

of course there's a problem here when god allows satan to destroy so much -- even to Job's family -- that seems a bit much -- but after all, this is just a story, you know, not actuality.

then there's the temptation in the desert of Jesus -- this really is an allegory for the "temptations" that Jesus, and a lot of people, encounter throughout their lives -- knowing what is really important, losing self-importance, and not thinking you are so great as to be impervious -- karma doesn't come back at you.

and Lucifer?  - there is absolutely no connection between Satan and LUcifer -- I dare anyone to try to find it in the Bible.

All these ideas floating around are sort of like Dante's Divine Comedy -- a huge fabrication built around a few statements.

You take all the statements about Satan (not the serpent -- that's just imagination too) -- and you really cannot see at all where certain segments of Christianity got their ideas -- its only form medieval minds that Satan was spawned.
