ukie - maybe I'm the one sniffing glue but your comment lost me as well
was it meant to be left on one of my other posts? I've done that myself, where I scrolled down too far and left my comment on the previous post . . . if not, never mind.

ariel70 - A man your age shouldn't sniff glue
What the hell is a schnurrbart? Now remember, I just a colonial, not exposed to such an expanded world view as those living on the European continent. I have actually heard the word before but if I remember it had something to do with drinking schnapps, I can't for the life of me put it into context in your comment.

Typical, typical!
Can't have it both ways, can you?
One wonders how long it will be before Herr Hitler joins Jesus in the ranks of the homosexual, anti-globalisation, peacenik, environmentalist brigade.
Have to get rid of that ridiculous schnurrbart tho'

Once again you have put the truth out there where folks can really see it. Keep up the good work, and perhaps we'll be able to get the bible thumping nincompoops out of politics and sidelined for good.
I bid you peace and understanding. Arley White

ariel70 -- I'd have to say that the way you present it is accurate with
what we know.
I don't subscribe to a conspiracy by world religions but base my statement that they all seemed to construct their own self serving propaganda around him on my own experience. Sitting as a brushcut lad listening to the nuns babble on about what an evil man he was, they quite often insisted that he was an atheist and that his misdeeds were simply what an atheist was capable of. Atheist equalled Godless, equalled evil to them. In later years these erroneous teachings have been modified to insist that he was the perfect example of someone who was possessed by Satan.

Yes indeed, Hitler was fully prepared to call on God, to aver his belief in God, in order to further his political and territorial ambitions.
And, without subscribing to conspiracy theories, one cannot but see that Hitler built upon the firm foundation of the virulent, exclusionary anti-Semitism of the German Christian churches to instigate the Holocaust. Mutatis mutandis, exclusion became expulsion, and ultimately annihilation.
But, it would be fatuous to attach too much significance to Hitler's belief in God or Christianity, for he was motivated by a strange and sinister, and highly perverted mish-mash of pagan, astrological and other way-out " religions"
The SS, for example was batantly pagan, and Himmler -- an even more deranged fruitcake -- built a whole Germanic/Scandinavian mythology, including his Round Table, in his shrine at Wewelsbug Castle.
The truly terrifying thing is that an urbane and civilized people, forming the largest racial group in Europe could become, en masse, complicit in industrial scale slaughter.
Our image is of sadistic concentration camp guards, but possibly a million or more Kriminal Polizei performed the hunts ; humble SS clerks prepared the papers; railway officials prepared the rail schedules ; locomotive drivers drove the engines that took millions to their own personal Calvaries.
To paraphrase a hymn : " Where were you, Fritz, when they crucified the Jews?"

RckyMtnActivist - modern day revisionists try to paint Hitler as a bible
believing Christian.
This is innacurate, he was not a Christian, though he was influenced by the bible. He was however certainly not an atheist as so many would like to believe. One need only read Mein Kampf to ascertain this. He had a megolomaniac's vision of himself that was also influenced to a great extent by his ongoing mental health problems. The religions of the world wanted to distance themselves from him after the war and created their own self serving propaganda towards him. Working on the premise that no one who believed in God could possibly do what he had done. I'm sorry to burst a few people's bubbles on that one but he certainly did believe in God and also believed he was chosen by God to put the world in order.

RckyMtnActivist - we've seen a leader thinking that he had a biblical
role in recent world history.
Many people forget that Hitler did not implement the "final solution" towards the Jews in the beginning but instead began by deporting them to Palestine. His thinking was derived directly from the bible and he had convinced himself that it was his pre-ordained role in world history to repatriate the Jews to their homeland. It is a little scary to think that a born again Christian has access to the world's largest nuclear arsenal

Excellent post! What is really scary is that we have a president that believes God put him in office. And since he also believes in the end times I am concerned that this belief can affect his decisions in the middle east. I mean maybe he thinks he has a role to play. I can help but think this affects his desicion making! Like I said...it's scary!
