I think summer is the better option for travelling and enjoying Australia - seeing the beach culture etc. Though our winters are quite mild compared to much of the northern hemisphere... we aren't faced with blizzards and other such extremes.

hi Melody
yep, there was a dose of that doppy self-deprecating humour which I actually found quite amusing. Australian political articles about likely democratic candidates in the US seem to be entirely focused on Hilary Clinton. The American political system is quite different from Australia and fascinates me. Our head of state is unelected and non-political, really little more than a figure-head (and annoyingly the Queen's representative... technically the Queen of England is also the Queen of Australia despite my voting that we become a Republic... never mind someday we'll cut the apron strings).

Hi. The movie was based on what Al described as his slide show... a presentation he's been giving in cities across the states and overseas since he lost the election. He attributes his information to input throughout the scientific community. Love or hate him, some of the more striking elements in the movie included seeing a steady stream of images: glaciers that had existed for thousands of years vanishing in the span of our lifetime; an enormous ice-shelf in antartica disintegrating ina matter of days (to the surprise and consternation of scientific observers); the extraordinary graphics showing the rise in CO2 and average temperature in the past thirty years (in comparison to mild change in the course of the previous hundreds of years) and of course the increasing volatility of weather patterns.

G'day RobDon...

Origami...Now that sounds like fun!!  I'm still trying to teach myself to knit.  I'm also still working on learning Japense.

You have a very compassionate soul...I'm sure that man appreciated your help.

Happy winter, by the way...I'm not sure I'd want to see Oz in the wintertime, but most definitely in the summer!!...

Mr. Rob, I'm amazed...
You have a way of shifting the subject from "crayons to perfume" and I like it.  I'll have to check out Al Gore's film.  In this part of the world, his intelligence is said to be comparable to our Presidente's.  It's a good way to keep the checks and balances when the representatives of each party are on the same level.

Is the film [produced by Andy Garcia] The Lost City playing in Sydney?  The cinematography and the acting is below average but the story is accurate as I experienced these events.   If you want a revolution, this film gives insight of what to look for after the revolution succeeds.

It's 9:40 a.m. here the beginning of my Saturday.... take care, Melody

hi kingmi
it might sound naieve but I hope the movie isn't an initial step in an election campaign, the message is so important I'd hate to think it would be lost in the political whirlwind.

robdon, I love these afternoons away from the daily
Grind. You get to observe the condition of others and it helps us appreciate ours. I even like Al Gore better now. Hope he runs for president!
