One of my all-time favorite quotes comes from Fargo:
"So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don't you know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well, I just don't understand it."

Nice to see your back
I love comedies of many different styles, and I'm not all that choosy about them.  But I thought Fargo (next to "Nothing But Trouble") was the least-funny alleged comedy ever made.  There was only one line in the script that was even mildly amusing.  Were just the accents enough to make this the "greatest comedy ever?"  Were they that funny?

A few quick points (based on various comments left here):

~ Fargo was a brilliant film, actually.  In fact, I know several critics who believe it's the greatest comedy ever made.

~ My boyfriend was gracious enough to see both An Inconvenient Truth and A Prairie Home Companion.  So, I didn't have to choose.

~ Any critic who believes X-Men 3 is a better movie than A Prairie Home Companion, should be stripped of his credentials.

~ And no, (thankfully) my absence was not due to my having been murdered.

fun is the best medicine!

X-Men 3 was surprisingly good, Mademoiselle,
The local critics panned "Prairie Home Companion" pretty badly, but I hardly ever base my opinions on critics, anyway.

I know a lady who billed her doctor for her time

They sent her a bill after she sat in his office for 2 hours.  She was on time, he was not, so she sent him a bill for her time.

I never did hear how that all worked out but I liked the idea.

You know how there are blatantly obvious warning labels

on a lot of things, just for the sake of stupid people?  Like "do not use while asleep" on hair dryers?  I heard an old joke that a pair of shoes had TGIF stamped on the inside for "Toes Go In First."  I think of that every time I see that acronym.

Anyway, "Prairie Home" is set in my native Minnesota.  Hopefully it helps out our image after the "Fargo" debacle.  I thought that was a horrible movie, and we sound nothing like that.  I hear Al Gore is surprisingly personable in "An Inconvenient Truth."  Although calling it "Truth" rather than "the most alarmist view anyone could hold outside of a loony bin" is a stretch.

Hi. How was the date? Just a conversational opener. Don't mean to pry if you're not blogging about it. Lol.

Mademoiselle--No wonder so many people "choose" to fall ill.

They find themselves more privileged than when they are healthy. Sick leave is one of them.

The subconscious has a role to play in their cases. In your case, I am not sure. Anyway, I am glad to hear that you and your mother, already close before, have further improved your relationship.

Hope you get to feeling better!

I'd go see, "Cars" if I had to pick a recent movie.

Thomas, I've heard very good things about both movies, actually ...
I'm a huge Altman fan, so that's the direction in which I'm leaning.
