DarrkeThoughts - we've sometimes seen it border on the ridiculous
Any good fortune, from incredibly miniscule and insignificant in nature has been described as a miracle. As if this omnipotent creator being takes the time to do these little things when so much in this world that he could do, gets left undone. This does not even begin to mention how some people describe their own hallucinations or delusions as miracles.

BlackPearl1 -- I am not skeptical when someone tells me of an
inexplicable medical reversal as I have seen such a thing with my own eyes. What I haven't seen is any indication that these extremely rare occurances favour the believer over the non believer. When it is considered that these stories not only imply that the believer is favoured but are quite often used as a means of solidifying and even defending belief, I cannot buy it. Even in the world of medicine, sometimes the inexplicable takes place. Atheists do not go out and contribute to the urban legend of miracles after such an experience, they just count themselves as lucky. To suggest that divine intervention of some sort took place immediately discredits all those who weren't so lucky.

I think you hit it on the head when you mentioned how the word "miracle" is defined. Any good and unexpected event. Giving credit to God is optional...

Oh well, gomedome,
I guess I won't bother to try and sway you with my story about the inexplicable medical reversal my grandmother had a few years back... Really! I'm telling you, for real.... Okay, I guess it does sound suspect when it happens exactly the same way every time, with only a few name changes of people, locations and diseases. I can see where one might be quite skeptical. Similar stories floating around on the Internet do have a way of diminishing credibility. Anyway, I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a sappy miracle believer, but I suspect you already knew that. :)
Hope you get more input/feedback from others. And I hope (pray) you receive whatever revelations you need to make sense what now seems like nonsense. Keep up the good work. :)

BlackPearl1 - a little while back I had a fervant believer attempt to use a
often told story of inexplicable medical reversal to support her position that miracles do in fact exist.
The poor sap who was disgnosed with a few weeks to live was an insufferable jerk who was also an atheist. After God intervened and completely healed this individual, of course he became a person of unshakable faith and a saint among men. The person attempting to use this yarn to back their position, claimed that doctors were baffled and that she knew it to be fact because she had seen the patient's x-rays, before and after the miracle. I don't know about you but I would fire my doctor if they began showing my x-rays to my aquaintances but that aside, I found the exact story online, with different characters and taking place in a different city. It's amazing how it always happens to someone else and if one were to believe how prevelant it is claimed to be, that no one ever experiencing this particular miracle seems to come forward to describe it themselves. You can fool some of the people all of the time.

Good stuff, gomedome,
I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say about the "inexplicable medical reversal". You are an excellent writer with a talent for provoking thought. Thanks.
