Umm... My Space?

What's that?

posted by SilverMoon7 on May 31, 2006 at 3:18 PM | link to this | reply

My boyfriend is very similar, Ichi ...

There's a word for it, actually ...

and I'll just leave it at that.

Yeah
I have a myspace. I use it as a method of getting my music heard. I wanted my boyfriend to sign up, just so he could leave me cute messages (how childish am I?!) but he said he didn't want to be like everyone else. He's one of an extremely tiny minority, of people I know, that don't have their own internet access. He goes on it occasionally here on my computer. He doesn't like to follow a fad. For example, he didn't get a mobile phone until two weeks before he met me. It's a good thing he did!

Yeah, I know it's free, Scriber ...

(Why do you keep saying that?)

Care to share your MySpace URL, btw?

Thanks for the tip, BlackPearl ...
and those online solicitations sound super creepy.

my space is free, and I have an account with my books listed; I
joined before all the juvenile publicity about it being a big bad blog.

Hi, Mademoiselle,

I joined the myspace.com to be able to view someone else's profile, a coworker.  But I guess it suspends you or something if you don't log in for a while.  I'm not sure.  Maybe I just forgot the email I used to sign up.  Oh well, maybe I'll check it out again soon.  Funny thing is, I've been getting these random IM's the past couple of weeks from people saying, "I think you live near me.  Want to check out my myspace.com?"  I would reply, "Hell, no", but I don't want to hurt their feelings.  Instead, I just don't reply, or reply with, "Hi, and if I don't alread know you and you're not willing to tell me who you are, no, I don't want to check out your myspace.com".  That's nicer, isn't it?

Oh, and I hear baking soda and cold water are good for removing blood stains...  :)

I guess I only have a few more months to enjoy myself then, Franciscan ...

Um, so you don't always enjoy the humor, Ben?

The Past

Can't believe how many people got on your case for something you did in GRADE SCHOOL. I was nasty and arrogant until I was about twenty one.

p.s. Congratulations on being number one.

p.p.s. Pray for Amanda's healing.

I enjoyed the humor in this post. 10 clicks have been returned. Thanks.

I doubt the creator is losing any sleep over what it's become, though, Rumored.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 2:15 PM | link to this | reply

yes, the things you mention, mademoiselle, and the other things...
as have been posted here...don't want to be anywhere near any of that if it can be avoided....I'm sure when it (myspace) started there were good intentions all around

Sassyass ...
What the hell is a teeny bopper?

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 1:28 PM | link to this | reply

It is, Scriber ...
So what's your point?

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 1:27 PM | link to this | reply

By the way, isn't MySpace for teeny boppers?
I was just wondering as that seems to be all that I have seen on there.

Two of my daughters belong to MySpace
Most of their friends are also on this site. Thanks for the warning, I will let them know.

i believe myspace is free.

posted by scriber on May 25, 2006 at 1:12 PM | link to this | reply

Well, Talion, that was the implication (around school) ...

I'm sure it was an accumulation of factors, actually.  She always was a little unstable.  One time, she just started screaming at me for no reason.

~ I know a couple high school kids here (in Philly) were caught in that fashion.

~ Good point.

Yeah, brettnik, I can certainly see how that might lead to some awkward situations.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 1:07 PM | link to this | reply

That girl transfered because they called her roach girl? That's all? She would still be traumatized if she went to my grade school, which wasn't the worst one in the city.

Didn't they catch some other dummies who planned a Columbine because one of them bragged on MySpace?

Why would you want to join that site? Isn't there enough petty childishness here for you?

posted by Talion on May 25, 2006 at 1:00 PM | link to this | reply

A little regret? I dunno. MySpace is what my students use.
I'd hate to run into them online!  I gotta have some privacy.

posted by brettnik on May 25, 2006 at 12:57 PM | link to this | reply

I thought about it once, Burly ...
However, I figured that if I did, I would then have to apologize to all the other people I've hurt over the years, too.  And, quite frankly, it's a pretty lengthy list.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:53 PM | link to this | reply

Thanks for the perspective, Frankenkitty.
So that's one positive take on the site, at least.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:50 PM | link to this | reply

Negative things such as what, Rumored?

Cause if you're referring to online solicitations and creepy late night phone calls ... I already receive those anyway.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:48 PM | link to this | reply

We had a similar incident here, Sturgis ...
how ironic if I were to be murdered after being located through MySpace ... by Amanda Buck.

Especially those living in people's hair, Whacky.

I don't have time for more anything, Ann ...

I'd likely just end up simulcasting.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:42 PM | link to this | reply

Actually, Strat, that would be a better slogan than the one they currently use:

"A Place For Friends" ... which sounds awfully childish ... plus a little creepy.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:40 PM | link to this | reply

Relatively speaking, Rcky, that was nothing ...
And yeah, that's pretty much the impression I have about MySpace, too.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:37 PM | link to this | reply

As if any further proof was needed, Cesium?

posted by Mademoiselle on May 25, 2006 at 12:35 PM | link to this | reply

Madamoiselle
You should. What you did was despicable! You should seek out that person and apologize! I am surprised that you would do such a cruel thing!
I love your picture, though.

I think Myspace originally
was for bands to sort of reach out to people. I joined because a friend I had in a band invited me.  If you view it as a tool for achieving a larger audience instead of a meat market, it doesn't seem so bad. Myspace is strange though. It's like a marketing companies dream come true. Take care

posted by Flumpystalls3000 on May 25, 2006 at 9:24 AM | link to this | reply

I had a "space" on Myspace very briefly, but when so many negative...
things started happening, I got out of it..maybe over-reacting on my part, but I'd rather be on the safe side...

Whacky
MySpace IS the thing to do according to my son.  However, I've heard more bad things than good about it.  What you said about pedophiles is true.  There was a female college student here in Illinois who had a spot on MySpace and a guy ended up stalking her and killing her.

posted by Sturgis on May 25, 2006 at 6:51 AM | link to this | reply

Well the world will just end if we don't do the thing to do!
Then all that will remain are cockroaches!

posted by Whacky on May 25, 2006 at 6:40 AM | link to this | reply

I don't have time for more blogging. I've read the hip hop artistes who post there when others write reviews about them.

I suppose My Space's ad campaign should be as follows:
"Come here, Little Girl...I have some candy for you..."

posted by strat on May 25, 2006 at 5:40 AM | link to this | reply

Wow Madame......

That wasn't a very nice thing to do.....what we do when we are kids! LOL  AS for MySpace...I wouldn't blog on there...it's mostly teens and pedophiles.

posted by RckyMtnActivist on May 25, 2006 at 5:35 AM | link to this | reply

The rumor quickly spread through the school like an intestinal virus.  Amanda was completely mortified!  Everybody started calling her "roach girl", and soon no one would sit with her at lunch.  She eventually had to transfer.
Further proof that kids are vicious.

Also, fourcats, I had shortened her last name ...

for my protection.

I didn't want her tracking me down to, like, settle the score.

oh, never mind.
i just saw it was grade school.

her last name was "buck" and being called "roach girl" was her nightmare?
