I read the whole thing about an hour ago and left another comment. I think your perceptions on the matter are quite keen.

I've heard it said many times that a debilitating disease saved my life. How we go about, rushing here and there, and miss all of it.

I don't think you give yourself enough credit. I think you are there much more than you probably realize.

Yes, it appears that we do not know the answers. Perhaps that is why they cannot be found.

Thanks. Well, we are trying to sell our house. We've had two come by this week. One man loved the place, but he said the house was too small (2400 sq. ft???). Anyway, another couple will look at it in the morning. We are very ready to get this all underway.

I'm working very hard to live in the present - the now is all we've got, so make the most of it and at the end of the day, I make an accounting. Each day I have is a gift because of my advanced stage of Parkinson's, so living in the now is a key to life!

avant-garde, about 364/365 of the time, I do not feel the way you describe in the first paragraph. I have learned to be content and to seize the day. Even if I don't accomplish much, I enjoy it and that is an accomplishment in itself.

Certainly. Can more money be equated with more happiness? Can more sex be defined as more love?

"More is merely less in disguise." I intuitively know this is true.
But I am still trying to come up with some examples to prove it true. Avant garde, can you help?

Avant-Garde,
Your post made me think of a Milan Kundera book I read years ago (he's also the author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, the reference Mademoiselle was making in the title of her blog). His other book was "Life Is Elsewhere", and the hero was always romanticizing the greener pastures of other places and other eras. Such an unsatisfying way to live. Now is all we have.
