Gome -
Religion is the opiate of the people. That's the problem. Personal accountability for what one places into the world is all that really matters.

A COMMENT OR SO ON YOUR WRITING

THE QUALITY  OF YOUR WRITING IS, IN A WORD, "EXCELLENT."  ADMITTEDLY, THERE IS SO MUCH DOCTRINAL "GARBAGE" (I CALL IT EXCESS BAGGAGE) ASSOCIATED WITH TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN BELIEFS THAT IT WILL SICKEN YOU IF YOU ALLOW IT.

BUT ALL THIS GARBAGE HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH THE BASIC QUESTION: IS THERE A SUPREME BEING, OR "FIRST CAUSE," OR NOT?  I WOULD PERSONALLY LIKE TO SEE MORE OF YOUR DETALED  LOGICAL REASONS FOR YOUR BELIEFS ON THIS MATTER.  IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF THAT?  I HOPE SO.  IN THE MEANTIME I WILL CONTINUE READING YOUR MATERIAL.  YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY QUITE BRIGHT AND TALENTED, AND I ALWAYS ENJOY READING ANYONE WITH THOSE ATTRIBUTES!

ArleyWhite - I have to agree
mankind will always need it's manufactured gods. Our only hope as a species is that somekind of enlightened tolerance takes hold at the grass roots level in numerous societies simultaneously . . . okay, that's impossible. . . . we're doomed.

redwood -- that's fair enough
That's all any of us can hope for.

franciscan - the first thing you should do is take Hitler off your list
and educate yourself a little more on the subject. The second thing you should do is find directions to the playground if you cannot articulate anything more mature than "theism is better than atheism."

God is love

Religion's not the answer. God is. God is love. We need more love.

p.s. Godless communism; Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, millions dead. Believing Christians and Muslims who kill for the wrong reasons, thousands dead. Theism is better than atheism.

there are lots of religious people and few Godly people
My definition of a Godly person is someone who respects God as Creator, Author of the Commandments, and the Savior of Calvary.  And someone who sincerely loves other people. You will not find all of those qualities in one person very often. I do not claim to be a good example, but these are the qualities I strive for.
As for the people who are very nice and do not believe, I am not their judge.  I just try to promote the things that I believe in.  It is entirely possible that I do it with the wrong attitude and that I am more a part of the problem than the solution. I hope this is not the case.

just a thought

I really don't believe we've ever rid ourselves of religious nonsense and dogmatic hocus-pocus until we find a way to make people comfortable with their own mortality. Until the public at large can deal with the idea that dead is dead, we will as a species continue to invent beings that offer us way out of the final trap, and we'll keep our finger on the trigger to defend it, regardless of how imaginary it might be, for many people it is all they have to look forward to. Kind of sad really.

I bid you peace and understanding. Arley White

redwood -- okay, I'm curious what you mean by that?

In my opinion, there is too much religion and not enough redemption.
