- Go to John Kerry Straddles the Border Fence Issue
Welcome, Jack, and thanks for the flashy humor!
"Chain link fence" seriously misstates the nature of the fence. I don't have the information on its design at hand, but I understand it to be a triple fence, much more substantial than the Kerry-esque put-it-up-so-we-can-take-it-down design you propose.

WOL,
I find it difficult to believe that there is anyone who believes that a chain-link fence of that length, that is left attended only by the border guard that we now have, would be anything but another waste of money that would quickly turn into a worldwide joke. Should we dig postholes for the fence, or just put up the temporary type? Should we waste money tearing it right down, or should we just leave it in place for a week and let the Mexicans do the work more cheaply? The latter seems to have become the U.S. tradition.
We need to do what was done by Lake Havasu City when the London Bridge was brought in from its original abode. We need to buy a chunk of the Great Wall of China and put it along the Mexican border. Anyone with any knowledge at all of that Great Wall, can attest to its flawless effectiveness against the Mongol Hordes.
