The problems with Dan Brown's novel are threefold:
1. His fact checking was sloppy.
2. It's based on a flawed theory.
3. The plot is preposterous.
Now, granted, the Bible has some silly stories in it as well. However, those can largely be explained away as fables/morality plays, as opposed to intended to be taken literally.
