I'd daresay that it is the artistic bent that spurs one to be different.

Avant -
Another wonderful paradox. We are all different, which makes us all the same.

avant-garde, 100% right on in this one. Except for a weak moment in my high school years when it seemed important to be like everyone else, I have loved the idea of being different, unique, even eccentric and have worked at presenting myself that way by just being myself without excuse. (That doesn't mean that I haven't worn makeup or colored my hair or painted my toenails.) I was taught tolerance and acceptance by my very unique father and what an interesting life that has afforded me.

Thanks....now this makes me feel better about being "different!" How boring the world would be if we were all the same!

The world will be a boring place if we are just the same as anyone else.
We flourish in diversity and stagnate in uniformity.
Tolerance and acceptance (and even admiration) are the answers.
