In the first place, the DaVinci Code is a novel. Fiction!
It's a mystery framed in a historical background, mixed with a bit of voodoo. The religious angle is a writer's hook, designed to get you to part with the cash to buy the book or see the film. As a movie, it's interesting and if I were to relegate it to a genre it would be sci-fi/fantasy.
It's true that opposition tends to broaden an argument -- if you oppose something it gives the other guy something to come up against and build on. So the demonstrations against this book and movie, all the half-thought-out comments you hear in opposition to the novelist's presentation only increase ticket sales and get more people into the bookstores...
I repeat -- it's fiction. Not gospel.

A&B, I haven't read the book, nor will I see the film
Fortunately, I know in whom I believe, and why I believe, and I don't need anyone trying to create doubt and erode my faith!
