Is this a satire? I agree that people (especially in America) get too carried away with their security issues. I watched Bowling for Columbine recently and was shocked to find out how many tens of thousands of gun related deaths we have in America compared to the hundreds or maybe thousands in other countries. Canada has just as many guns but a fraction of the murders. They even leave their doors open! I actually tried doing that at my house and it's weird but I feel more comfortable than when it was locked. I'm not sure if this was what you were getting at but I agree that we should trust people more than yell for security.
btw, what happened to your story? I briefly saw it yesterday but I didn't have a chance to finish.
