wqho was president 2 1/2 years ago?
and since?
check out again -- Feb was .8 down -- march was a blistering .6 up
each figure is compared to the previouis month.
take the two together and we still have a .2% loss.

and the yes, the quarter was a growth period -- but after a not so great period.
and remember -- this includes food service -- grocery, restaruants, fast food.
and of course we have to understand that the cost of retailgoods is ver low due to their having been manufactured where wages are less than $2/day.

it would be interesting to compare costs -- to compare with the prices were the goods manufactured here at a labor cost of about $6/hr plus benefits.

also, what people could afford on their present wages -- and present compared to the past.

what I perceive (??) is that low prices for retail help make goods more affordable to people whose wages areen't comparable to those past.

If we were to compare goods cost versus wages -- now and decades ago -- I wonder what we would come up with.

is the "boom" mainly due to the fact that goods are so cheap due to the fact they are made where labor costs are 1/10 or less what they would be here?

OK, I did the homework , , ,

. . . wherein I found this informatiion:

"Overall, the economy grew at a sizzling 4.8 percent rate in the first three months of this year, the strongest showing in 2 1/2 years and a sharp rebound from a lackluster 1.7 percent growth rate in the October-December period, a time when the economy was held back by disruptions caused by last summer's Gulf Coast hurricanes."

Which is exactly what I've been saying all along. Thanks for helping me prove my point.

In fairness, I'll add the next paragraph:

"Analysts believe growth will slow again in coming months as consumers deal with the impact of soaring gasoline prices, which are once again hovering around $3 per gallon, and rising interest rates."

Plain old common sense. Just try pinning that one on Bush.
