TurningPoint
That guy is my father and he is just like that.

As for the marriage thing, go study your history.  Marriage was not originally state sanctioned (Nor church sanctioned either) and in fact had nothing at all to do with the state.  Also, by your logic if a man or woman is unable to reproduce, then they should not be allowed to wed.  That logic just does not work in the least.  There is a lot more to marriage than just having kids.  If marriage is nothing more than a state allowed situation that it  is about nothing more than producing offsprings,it then becomes truly meaningless.  For me marriage is about two people committing themselves to each other (Which is the actual original idea of it).  It has become a much more meaningless commitment thanks to the state and religion getting involved in it all.

Well, you have the right idea...

That guy thought it might be irritating that he posted a comment twice, so he posted a third one explaining it? Any way... :)

Many people choose to 'tend to their own garden' while forgetting that our true purpose here is to serve humanity. Thus, if what we are doing is not in some way beneficial to the rest of mankind, we are more or less wasting our lives.

That being said, I disagree about homosexual marriages. The purpose of marriage, in its original form, is to be a state sanctioned union between male and female, with the purpose of family stability. Essentially, the whole purpose is for children. If a union between two people is not to result in the bearing of children, the state really has no interest in sanctioning it.

Homosexuals should definitely not be persecuted. But that doesn't mean we need to deface the original purpose of marriage to placate them.

But yes, back to the main concept. We are definately being too selfish and self-serving in this country, and ironically, we will all suffer our fate together as a group as a result.
