TAPS- - I don't know if that is true
Where religious adherants most times have a clear set of prescribed beliefs with which to reconcile and use as a basis to formulate their thinking, the non believer on the other hand is working outside of these boundaries.

gomedome, you know, its funny how both the believer and the non-believer each refer to or think of the other as being "shackled" and think of themselves as being "set free."

Xeno-x - that's it basically
My contention has always been that the notions of a messiah dying for the sins of mankind has proven itself to be a dismal failure. The foibles of human nature have prevailed in spite of this supposed sacrifice. To insist on adhering to an ever redundant philosophy in the face of this failure is a closed minded mentality that is at this stage of our development, retarding our growth as a species.

sannhet - that pretty well ecompasses my feeling on the subject
The truly harmful aspect of attempting to adhere to any path is when there is an insistance in a conformity of belief. Before you know it, certain groups of people find themselves on the outside looking in, any message of love falls by the wayside. The first step to true enlightenment is the realization that no one knows anything about what some call God.

TAPS- too funny
The funny part is you refering to non belief as some form of fight or resistance. All I can say in response is what I truly feel. Once the mind is released from the shackles imposed upon it by an irrational belief in a being that does not exist, the likelyhood of ever returning to that mindset is highly unlikely.

there is no Truth
there is what is true -- but only comparatively. when we speak the truth, it is still not pure truth.
there is noly what is more valid.
truth cannot be arrived (sorry -- validity) at by accepting blindly what has been stated for centuries (besides what most Christians perceive as "truth" is what 15th Century Anglicans have interpreted as "truth".), but by testing. Odd that they ignoire the Apostle Paul's admonition to "prove all things".
they need to put what they state through the fire of testing -- let the chaff be burned away to leave the solid stone building blocks of their lives.
but they don't.
the Apostle Paul's admonition is the "scientific method" -- testing hypotheses to determine their validity.
but like the fast draw in the Old West ('No matter how fast you are, there is always someone faster."), nho matter the validity you've discovered, you should always be ready to accept that new validities can be discovered that will change the way you look at things now.
I just wrote about "boxes" - that's what they are in -- boxes that in reality limit -- however, they are comfortable in those boxes.
that which challenges the validity of the box is uncomfortable. so basically their words are defenses against the possible dissolution of their comfortable box-like world.

Gome -
Everyone is on a path. Where to, know one knows. I think I know where I am going and I think I know a certain amount of Truth but, truth be told, I don't know squat. All I know is that I feel in my heart a call to love, and that loving myself and others (no matter what they may have done) is what I personally am supposed to do. I don't know about anybody else. Their paths are foreign to me. But as long as others on those paths bring no harm to another and try to live a good and meaningful life, then that's all I can ask for.
