KookaLives, You are right, religion is not the answer and is often
the problem; however, faith in God through His son Jesus Christ is the answer!

That made no sense at all
Religion is one of the most addictive things out there, and has ruined a good deal of lives through creating addicts.
Evolution says we grow and change and that we need to be aware of the future and where we are going. It very much does not back up any ideas of justifying addictions.
Religion on the other hand basically gives people an out and says they are not responsible for their actions, since Satan influences them and such. Religion also gives no real hope for the future, since it says we will have some kind of Armageddon. It would seem to me that religion would be more liekyl to promote addiction than being taught evolution.
In my experience it is the believers who are most likely going to get addicted to drugs and alcohol. I seriously know of not a single atheist who is into drugs or alcohol. Yet I have known a good amount of believers who are drunks and on all kinds of drugs and such.
There is no logic or reasoning to yore conclusion here.

FarSailor, Religion has not failed, humans have failed
to let religion have its true power of faith, hope and love!

Whose Failure
It is not the failure to turn to religion, but the failure of religion itself that has set man adrift...

The propensity has always been there. It is more rampant these days because there are more of us and because these things that you mention are too readily available and easy to obtain. God has always been there also to provide a way of escape for anyone who wants it.

Redwood, thank you for your insight -- I never thought about God having
an addictive nature, maybe that is why the Bible says, "God is Love" -- maybe he is addictive to sharing love, and seeks 24/7 to find those he can share his love with!

1 Corinthians 2:14
This may not be totally consistent with the idea of your post, but it is what came to mind as I read it. "But the natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned".
You mentioned evolution. If a person thinks that God has to conform to our idea of that which is scientific, logical, and fair, then it stands to reason that he must have an addictive nature, too Perhaps he is a compulsive tinkerer. That is why he has to take 500 gazillion years in order to create something. Ya spose?

Passionflower, these are restless times, because we have been taught there
are no absolutes, again, Jean Sarte, founder of the overriding philosophy of our day, "existentialism" called it "dreadful freedom"

I just wrote a couple of posts on addiction recently.
I'll go see if I can find a link to one. Everyone seems addicted to something nowadays.
